The most common symptoms is an infection that just won't heal. You may get a fever, fatigue and if it goes into the blood stream, if left untreated, you can go into shock. I do hope this person keeps her sore covered, washes her hands, and takes all the medication as prescribed for her. Stopping antibiotics too soon is one of the reasons we are getting so many drug resistant bacteria. Staph infections need to be monitored for changes such as expanding margins of infection, increaded drainage, foul smelling drainage and any blackening of the tissue around the infected area. Red streaks branching out from the infected area need to be watched for also. I personally do not like to see anyone with a staph infection working around food, small schildren or elderly people. I think it is a big risk unless the area is covered with an occlusive dressing. Good luck. I hope this person's infection heals well!

When the skin is broken for any reason, it has the potential to turn in to a bacterial infection so you can see an open sore that is red and "oozing". They say most people actually carry staph but it does not present itself until the skin is broken. Now my concern more than anything is I hope to god she is not working until it is under control... it can be spread by contact and through the air.
Usually if people are not keeping a broken skin area clean and treated.....and then touching things..well it spreads. She hopefully is being actively treated.

There are a few kinds of types, dont know them off hand to be honest but a search on line should help. I know the above, and also impetigo is one as well...where kids wipe their running noses on their hands and there hands break out in a rash...lol

As long as it's covered on her leg I don't see a big deal about her working still.
But a few friends had a staph infection before and had to get the infection cut and scraped out. And they packed it with gauze.
I had things similar to those staph sores. On my legs and butt mainly. The ones on my leg got to be about 6 inches wide and raised up off my leg maybe 2 inches at the most. Very very painful. The ones on my rear wern't as big but hurt just as bad.
A nurse I kept having to go to said I must have had a spider infestation in my house (not true and I told her that) but she insisted. So when I finally got to see MY doctor she determined it was somthing that had to do with an auto immune system disease. Turned out I had a thyroid problem and I had just about no immune system.
So....could be staph, but could be due to her immune system due to something causing it to fail.
If she only gets one then most likely it seems to me it's a staff infection and they need to treat it or cut it out right away before it spreads. It can spread fast and cause her to get a fever and it has been known to cause death if left untreated.
Tell her to go to the ER asap.

An oozing sore in the FOOD industry?? And she's still at work?? That is DISGUSTING! And I'll bet that if the FDA came in there she would no longer have a job, and there might be some fines given out at the least! Educate this woman on health and safety. Is she nuts??? Tell your boss immediately!
