he got cut by a tree branch on his back hip about a month ago, my other cat has been keeping it clean for him, it doesnt seen to be bothering him but sometime it will puss. I can't afford to take him to a vet, I wanted to know if it would be a good idea to put hydrogen peroxide or iodine on it, like i said its not bothering him and seems to be healing alright, think i should just leave it alone?

Call your local humane society and ask for the number to a low cost vet. Vets will work out payments plans for you. Your poor cat is suffering and needs medical attention. If it pusses, that means there is an underlying infection. If that infection gets into the bloodstream, there is little to nothing that can help him and he will die. Please get him help!

Do you know what kind of tree this is? I know, for a fact,a redwood IS piosionous, and perhaps several more are but I do not what they are. My guess on this would be that your cat would be VERY sick long brfore now. Your cat REALLY does need to see a vet. You say that you cannot afford this. Well, what if this were one of your children---could you "afford"
THAT? If I were you, I'd get into the Yellow Pages" of the phone book, under "Veteranary Medicine" and start with the first one on the list and explain your situation, and believe it or not,
there ARE many "vets" who will work out a payment program for you. Start with your OWN vet---if you have one. If not, keep calling. I know, you're going to sound like a "broken record"--to YOURSELF only! Keep calling! Chances are---you WILL get a 'YES" FROM
one of those veteranary offices. Now, if you live in a very small town, I'm sure that you have at least ONE pet store or a FEED & GRAIN store. Go to each of these places, tell them about your situation, and ask the clerk if the store can recommend ANYONE: a vet tech, a STUDENT in verenary medicine, or even a CAT BREEDER. Cats do NOT do very well on a lot of medications. Therefore, IODINE is OUT
and peroxide "iffy", at best. Remember the old saying: "When in doubt, leave it out" I just hope you get this answer before someone else tells you "yes, either will work". No, they may not and they also may be very toxic to other kitty who's doing the cleaning. I wish you the best of luck in finding a "professional" who will be able to help you.

Take your cat to the vet! If it's leaking puss, it is infected! The longer the infection remains on his body, the more likely it is to scar and have a hard time healing and the more chances it has to spread throughout the body.

Your cat needs antibiotics, and possibly to have the abscess flushed and cleaned out. The other cat is not keeping it clean, it is just licking the blood and debris off of it. Cat mouths are very dirty and full of bacteria. The constant licking and moisture is probably just making the infection worse. Take your kitty to the vet ASAP.

yes, you can clean it with hydrogen peroxide. It is not harmful to your cat, but you really need to have the vet take a look.

A gash that deep on the leg, and the cat does not be conscious it?? i could say that's the two from a cat combat, or she have been given caught in a fence or some thing to that result. There may be nerve injury if she does not look to experience a wound like that. Take her to the vet to envision for infections or nerve injury.

Hydrogen peroxide and iodine can be very effective but if it seems to be healing OK I would leave it because they can sting and you don't want to upset him unnecessarily. Keep a careful eye on it as cat's mouths are full of bacteria so his friend is probably putting as many germs in as he's taking out but as long as it doesn't become infected and it isn't bothering him I'd leave it.

Since you can't afford to take him to the vet, whatever you do, DO NOT put iodine or peroxide on it. The pet store sells a tube of cream for sores and cuts. It shouldn't cost too much in your area, since it's really cheap here in Alaska. I can't remember the name of it but it's like Neosporin for cats. Just go the pet store and ask for it, they'll know what you're talking about. Since the cut has puss that means it's probably infected and you really want to take care of it. Good luck.

If you can't afford a vet, you should not have a cat. I really suggest calling your local Humane society and explain your situation. Perhaps they can guide you somehow. Your cat is in danger of infections and maggots in the wound.

It wont cost you anything to call a vet and ask. Explain your situation, most of the time if you find a good vet they will answer your question over the phone. If one wont answer you, make your way down a the list in the phone book.

If it looks like it is healing, you can probably leave it alone. Definately you should consult with a vet but they will probably tell you to keep an eye on it and if it gets red and puffy and seeps a lot he will probably need to be seen. They may work out some type of payment plan for you if need be.

Ask yourself this: if this same gash was on your side, or the side of your child, what would you do?

Probably get it treated, especially with the signs of infection (puss.) Contact your local shelter and get contact info for low-cost vets in your area.
