I have the misfortune of every time I eat, my nose begins to run. I am sure it is a temperature thing as it happens every time I sit down to eat, and it doesn't stop until a few minutes after I have finished.

This a constant, slow drip, and would cause me to leave the table every minute or two to discreetly wipe my nose. Now I wait until I can't any longer and then I wipe my nose from both sides in one quick motion downward, or one quick motion from left to right, as quickly as possible, and when someone else is talking.

This has bothered me for years, and I am tired of being rude to my family and friends, but I feel it would be even more rude to leave the table every few minutes.

Thank you in advance.

Unfortunatly, taking a spray or medication to dry out my nose to stop the problem before it starts is not an option, as it would send me directly into a sinus infection, yes I do have a medical problem.

You are not alone. I have exactly the same problem. I always have tissue papers with me when I dine with others or even at home. Using the tissue paper to wipe or squeeze your nose to remove the nasal fluid is fine as long as you don't make any loud noise doing it. Do it discreetly and and put the used tissue in your pocket so that you can get it easily when you need it the next time into the meal (if it is still quite clean and reusable). Make sure you have enough tissue paper.

I think that as long as you are not blowing your nose or letting it drip onto your plate then your doing just fine. However, I would talk to a doctor about this because it doesn't sound normal to me. I have never heard of this before and unless you have a cold your nose should not run. You may have some sort of medical contion that can be fixed and then it wouldn't be a problem anymore. Good luck and no I don't think your being rude at all.

I believe this happens to many people. I have not read about this in Amy Vanderbilt, but I see nothing wrong with discreetly wiping your nose (with a tissue)as necessary. Since this is a condition over which we have no control, the best solution is to handle it in as a socially acceptable manner possible.

Before you go out to eat take a medication that will dry up your sinuses for a short period of time.

Continually wiping your nose can be a turn-off when people are trying to enjoy a meal.

I guess u dint really have to think of it as a misfortune. I have a cousin who has pretty much the same problem(she doesn't complain).I know,it could look a little weird.
Isn't it at this time, that a hand kerchief or a paper napkin comes handy.U just have to master the ways of using it(I mean the etiquette)

It's better to blow your nose not wipe. That's something even a child should know. Last just leave the table to use the bathroom that way the other person will asume u are using the bathroom.

I would just wipe my nose and not worry what the others think. It is silly jumping up and down just to wipe your nose. It is natural, specially if you are eating a hot curry. You are not being rude to anyone. Those who will perceive you as rude would have found something else to moan about anyway. You go ahead , wipe your nose and enjoy your meal. :)))))

Take a Sudefed or something to dry up your sinuses before going out to eat. It works... I come from a whole line of sinus sufferers..with boxes of tissues!

obviously it is high-quality. Why on earth might want to it not be? Oh! class > Ramadan. Then it is probable prohibited. almost each and everything is unlawful. would not favor to piss God off. Allah is smooth about each and everything. If he's having a foul hair day you're toast in case you do something suspicious.

Use a tissue separate from the napkin. Squeeze or wipe, but do not blow. Do not show any thing that LOOKS messy.
