Why does it make you so upset to see others happy?

PS. Religion is not the cause for bloodshed, death, or war. Its the non religious people who lust for more power who use religion to try and control the people to get the desired result.

I never told anyone what religion I am or put it in your face.

But I constantly see you mocking people...with your angry spaghetti monsters and other crap.

Its just amazing that some people hate it when someone is happy with their god.

ALSO you foolish people who think religion was the cause of war, I guess you never read past the headlines.. The inquistion was to secure more power for the Pope, it was never about religion.

The witch hunts, again...never about religion..about securing the power of individuals.

RELIGION is used as an excuse, but it is never the cause.

Happiness is good and there isn't enough of it so it never bothers me to see people happy.

It doesn't bother me to see religious people happy. I consider that to be the one positive effect of religion, a bit like the one positive effect of heroin is the high the user feels for a while. But that's little comfort when you're stealing our children's education to pay for another hit.

ps. Whether it is being used by a theist or an atheist, the very fact that religion can be used to control people and convince them to fight in wars is a way in which religion causes bloodshed. Wars don't happen unless the people are willing to fight, if religion plays a part in that then it plays a part in war. To the Pope the inquisition was about securing power, but without religion no one would have gotten involved. The same with the witch hunts. A power-hungry leader isn't enough to start a war, they need people willing to kill and die for them. If religion is what makes people willing to do that, then religion is as much a cause of war as greed or power.

"Religion is not the cause for bloodshed, death, or war."

Hahahaha.

With the fall of the Roman Empire, the librarian of Alexandria was pulled off her carriage and skinned alive. Literacy dropped. Even the Pope had to have the Bible read to him. In the first crusade, Christians killed tens of thousands of people they called "infidels". The Children's Crusade (1212) caused the deaths of nearly 50,000 children. Preachers sentenced to death and executed thousands during the Inquisition (1233-1834) for heresy and witchcraft. There were the Salem witch trials (1692) in America. The 17th Century Thirty Years War (Catholics v. protestants) wiped out tens of millions in Europe. In the Taiping Rebellion in China in the 1850's a Christian cult started a war that resulted in the slaughter of twenty million people. In the Holocaust six million Jews were murdered. Muslims and Christians in Bosnia reached a death toll of over 250,000.

Ha!

You just answered your own question. Whether non-religious people use religion to control people, or if the religious people make the decisions themselves, the end result is the same - religion is causing bloodshed, death, and war. If people's senses weren't dulled by religion they would see through the manipulation.

I don't see how this is seeing others happy.

I was much happier when I broke religion's hold.

atheists will blame anything to further discredit Christians. of course religion is not the cause of war and blood shed. that is man causing war. putting a label on everyone that commits murder is superficial since everyone in this world belongs to a specific group whether it be race or religion. i just dont understand why all religions cannot get along without having this supremacist attitude of my religion and belief is better. atheists posses this characteristic. due to their despise for God and Christians they will blame all war and evil on Christians as well as subjective political agenda that they may disapprove of.

I am not an atheist, I simply believe in myself. My question back to you is, why do I need to hear about religion from people of faith with out being asked. I am happy with my life without organized religion, as happy with mine as I assume you are with yours in organized religion. I however do not try to educate you on my ways, but most of the religious people in my life have tried to force their ideas of how the world works upon me, without my asking them questions to prompt them.

I don't understand why we can't all live in love for one another despite our different views. You are happy with you God, I couldn't be more happy for you and your beliefs, I simply wish you could feel the same way for me.

Hm. Why do you make generalizations about all atheists? It doesn't bother me when people are happy with their religious choices. As a matter of fact, I think it's wonderful when people are proud and certain in their beliefs. Hey, if they believe it, why should it bother me?

I just thought I'd put in my two cents. It seems like all anyone does in R & S is over-generalize.

It doesn't.

And yes, religion HAS been the cause of many conflicts, wars and bloodshed. The Inquisition, the Witch trials, the conflicts in the Middle East right now which have been waging for centuries... no, those weren't non-religious people merely using religion. Tsk tsk... read a few books (and NOT the ones you find on the lists Christian propagandists provide you).

I'm a long-time atheist and my motto is and has always been...

If believing in God and being a Christian makes you happy and gives meaning and purpose to your life then I'm behind you 100%.

My suggestion to you is to "qualify" your questions because you're putting the same label on everyone....bad business and very unfair.

Maybe you can rethink your last sentence...you're doing what you don't want done to you.
