Abraham was spared at the last minute and so his faith was tested and found true. Would todays Christians faithfully follow God's imperative?

Some would while others wouldn't. In Abraham's case I agree his faith was tested, but in today's society would anyone have a strong faith to believe God is speaking to them and asking them for a human sacrifice. A lot of people don't have a great faith especially to sacrifice their own mother because God told them so.

One can only hope that they would. Though God told Abraham that he didn't have to go through with sacrificing Isaac, he had to move forward to that point knowing full well that God's will would be done. If God had allowed the sacrifice to continue, who's to say that He wouldn't have raised isaac as a show of His power? God told Abraham that He had provided Himself a sacrifice (the ram in the thicket). Such was again true when he provided Jesus to be the ULTIMATE sacrifice, who DID rise again!

Sad to say, probably not.
If you are a true believer you would not hesitate. As stated, this was a test of faith. How many could pass....
A story for you:
In the middle of the church service 2 men dressed in black, heads covered with masks, enter the church armed with AK-47 assault rifles. They proceed to announce that anyone who is willing to give up their life for their God and their beliefs will be shot and killed. Anyone NOT believing will be spared and they may now leave. You have 1 minute.
A stampede to the door ensued. Only a few remained. The masked men uncovered themselves and remarked to the priest. "O.K., NOW you may continue your sermon" "We have weeded out the faithful and true"

No. I believe that Abraham failed the test. It is a sin to kill an innocent person and it is a sin for god to ask someone to kill an innocent person. If right and wrong are absolutes then they apply to EVERYBODY.

At best Abraham should have said something like, "Sorry, I can't kill my own son. Take my life if you must but I won't murder."

Well considering our faith is tested differently these days I don't think it would come up. We now have knowledge, and christ, there are no other measures of faith other than belief now.

Our faithfulness is tested by our beliefs not by our works anymore.

If something posing as God asked me that question today I would say get out of my face.

Also, I'd go see a psychologist.

Fortunately I'm not a Christian. The Goddess - the great mother Herself - would never require me to sacrifice my mother to Her. The God - being born of the Goddess every year - likewise recognizes the importance of the mother, so I can't envision an instance in which He would reqiure me to sacrifice my mom either.

I would not. I see Abraham's story as a kind of myth, not a true story. I don't think God wants us to kill, since it's a sin. Sins are bad =)

I sure wouldn't my mom never kicked me out of the house (see Adam and Eve) my mom would have never killed me if i loved another mom, so why would i choose God over my mom. Oh and my mom is the only person i can whole heartedly say created me (dad helped). I would kill God for my mother though, what you think about that.

If I walked as Abraham did with God and heard His voice tell me anything. I'd do it. He's the one in charge. He'll take of everything.
