What you going to turn this around and say; well what about the bible?
If you must know there is better documented evidence that Socrates existed that there is god. No-one has ever seen him, heard him speak, read his works (as men wrote them) seen him perform any magic tricks, so really how can I not doubt his existance? The bible was written in part by a pagan so really how can I possibly conform to the bible as being the word of god?

If you're trying to segue this into a Jesus argument, most atheists think that a radical rabbi named Jesus existed, too.
They just don't think he was the son of a magical guy in the sky and a virgin, and don't think he'll turn into a zombie and come back anytime soon.

There is the glaring possibility that Socrates was Plato's voice in his dialogues. Evidence has not made a case either way.

I'm sure if you looked hard enough you'd find a few half mad historians who would tell you he never existed.

No. Not really.
But then he was only said to be a very wise man.
