and my chiroprator's office is closed today. Any advice on how to heal without taking pain meds?

You can take Ibuprofen for the pain and inflammation. You can also use ice packs for 15-20 min at a time. Be sure to wait 30 min in between icings. This will also help cut down on the inflammation. Then later you can switch to moist heat, such a warm bath or shower. You can even heat wet towels in the microwave, but you want to go with a moist heat versus a dry heat like a heating pad. You may even want to do some stretching or even massage. I hope this helps!

There is an exercise that can ease sciatic pain. You lay on your side on the floor. Put one knee up to your chest as far as is comfortable, while leaving your other leg as straight as is comfortable. Do this gentle stretch several times, then switch sides. You should feel little pull in your lower back as you do each stretch. Good luck.

Put on a cold pack and lay down.
