I'm not sure what brands there exist in Europe, but to name a few of the common American names...Look into Trek, Gary Fisher, Specialized, Giant or even Cannondale. Those are established brands that offer hybrid bicycles around your price range.

Cheaper hardtail (front suspension only) mountain bikes would be just as good as a hybrid, just pay attention to the type of tires that are on them.

In my opinion Trek 7200fx

Have had one for just over a year with no prioblems except for the usual punctuures etc
