If my mother was angry with me, my punishment was dusting & washing dishes. I HATED doing dishes for a long time and would buy paper plates & cups etc when I got out on my own. Now I just don't use chores as a punishment for my kids. I take away something they love like games & electronics. I make chore time "fun-time" with music while we work & snacks that they like afterwards.

My chores each morning prior to leaving for school were to clean the bathroom (toilet and all), empty trash cans, dust my room, and practice my piano for 30 minutes. I actually despise doing all of that now, since I began such chores by the time I was 5!

Mow the grass. Wash the dishes. Wash clothes.
We had a clothes line that you hung wet clothes on to dry with wooden clothes pins for fastening to the line. Mother wanted our sheets hung on the clothes line. She made us throw rugs over the lines to air out the big rugs. We took our mattresses and with 2 saw horses and 2-2x4's we aired out the mattresses.
She always picked the hottest and sunniest day for airing out things.

washing dishes and dusting are the two that I dread the most. I also had to vacuum, and it is kind of fun and relaxing, one that I actually don't mind. Another one is washing cars. I dislike that one a lot.

dusting
because my mom had a lot of knick-knacks and I hated picking them all up and dusting them all off and having to put them all back in the same place
I have a lot of knick-knacks myself now but I dust around them :)

I used to enjoy mowing the grass. I don't enjoy it as much these days. I don't know why.
