My wife had the same thing last month happen to her. It took about 4 days for her swelling to come down. We tried ice packs and it helped a little.

I think you need a root canal. While that won't be getting done by tomorrow, take ibuprofen if you aren't allergic to it or asprin. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflamatory, and will help a bit with swelling and more importantly your pain. You can take up to 4 of these 200 mg tabs, so 800 mg in total, every 6 hours. That is prescription strength, same as if your dentist prescribed it. Also, ice packs are good to use as follows, 20 mins on, 30 mins off, 20 mins on, 30 mins off, etc. DO NOT put a heating pad on it. Heat will make your swelling worse. If worse comes to worse, call your dentist and see if you can get in to drill it open to relieve some of the pressure. That would be the quickest way to make it feel better, just to get it opened up. Most likely the nerve has died. The antibiotic is only a temp. fix remember. It may take care of the problem for a week or so but it will get infected again. Even so, finish the script, and get into your dentist to get it fixed. Good luck, tooth aches are no fun, especially these kind!!

There really isn't much else that you can do except keep taking the antibiotics. You could try mixing a tsp of salt in a cup of hot (not too hot) water and holding it in the area of the infection for a few minutes to draw out some of the infection. With the antibiotics, hopefully, the swelling will be down by tomorrow. It might be a good idea to go into your work today and speak to a supervisor. He or she may suggest to wait one more day to start work or, if you're up to it, come in to work tomorrow as is. But, if it's a very "public" job, they may want you to wait until the swelling goes down a bit. Let them know that you are interested in the job and willing to work and keep them updated on your situation. In the meantime, take the antibiotics as directed until they're gone. I wouldn't recommend taking Aspirin (ASA - acetylsalicylic acid) for the pain just in case you have to have the tooth removed. Aspirin thins the blood and you could have a problem bleeding if you have it extracted.

Try icepacks or coldpacks. There's not too much you can do to decrease the swelling right now. But with antibiotics doing their job, you might wake up looking much better. Just go to work even if you face is still swollen and they'll see you're serious about your job. It's too bad you got this bad luck.I wish you the best and I hope it turns out ok for you.

Use a cold compress on your face to take the swelling down. It may not help take the swelling all the way down but it should help. You will probably want to have the tooth removed to avoid further infections.

See your dentist, and get it taken care of as soon as possible. Even though you want to make a good impression on your new job, I think most employers understand that health issues crop up at unexpected times. You'll probably only miss a day at most.
