I hope there is an electronics expert who will see this. I was trying different AC adaptors on my guitar pedal last night and one of them overheated a capacitor and it blew with a loud pop. If I go to Radio Shack and buy the same capacitor and replace it will it probably work, or am I probably wasting my time? I don't know if other components would've been fried in the same overload or if the capacitor protected the rest of the circuit.

Generally when something like a cap pops on a circuit board it breaks the circuit and doesn't harm any of the other components. No more than a new cap would cost you and as easy as they are to replace I'd try it.

what i would do, check the warrenty on the pedal, If it's still in warrenty the pedal 'malfunctioned' on it's own.
