he lives in the penthouse and is superstitious about going down more than 2 flights of stairs at a time, either that or the lift doesnt go up as far as the 7th floor.

If you live on fifth floor then he probably likes you, or if you don't someone else on the floor. Maybe he just wants to get a little exercise. Does he do the same going up the stairs? If so I'm sure on he just wants to get some excesses.

i get the feeling the riddle has been told wrong.
should be he goes to the 5th and then walks to 7th. reason being is he is too small to reach the 7th button in the lift
