While the surname search engines don't show anything, and LDS Family Search has nothing, ZABASEARCH shows that this is a real name, so It should come from somewhere. Ellis Island has none in it either. There is no Genforum for this name.

The last site is not English, and the translation fails, but I suspect this may hold the key to where the name comes from, and it looks Swiss to me.
