I think it means that anyone can act good and nice when everything is going well and they are comfortable whereas the true test is how that person acts at times of conflict or inconvenience to him.

It means that anyone can take the moral highground position from their armchair with a glass of scotch about an issue that doesn't affect them too personally - Oh I don't think people should ever do such and such ...

But it's a different thing to see how people act, or what position they take, when THEY have something at stake - like voting to approve a widening of a road because the town needs it even though that's gonna tear up your own personal front yard -

i imagine that the degree of a guy is in his be conscious. If he's truthful to do what he says and to be the way he says he's. i savour Dr King and that reality is definitely. regardless of if without a guy retaining his be conscious and being who he's continuously, he received't stand in time or challenge and controversy.
