I am using Windows XP Professional with SP2. Recently, i found that the entry for new text file from the context menu is missing. When i right clicked on desktop and tried to create a new text file, i could not find the option for creating new text file - which should infact appear there in normal case. This misdeed is sure due to some extenssion problem... may be a corrupt registery or missing entry.

Can anyone help me to restore it back ? Or i simply have to forget creating new text file ???

Thanx.
Vincent B.

first, control panel>folder options>view>show hidden files and folders. then go to c drive>documents and settings>(your name)>templates. in the templates folder you must open wordpad or whatever and save an empty document into this foldeer. i hope it works ok!

Another thing you can try is create a new Word file, then save that file as a .txt file in the Save As... menu.

The file may be corrupted, if it is not big problem then I woudn't worry about it but if you need it check on your driver disc that should have came for your computer and check if it came with the program on the discs or go to add or remove programs and go to install/remove windows components and see if it is there and install it.

go to Start>accessories(sp?)>Notepad or Wordpad (both are under this directory) and click on one to open a new text file... you could right click on them and say "send to desktop" to make a shortcut which would be easier than right clicking on the desktop everytime anyway.
