I believe God has greater plans for some than for others, and so he needs to test them harder to make sure they will be able to handle the task he has for them. I don't look at it as testing, but as training.

Maybe people who are tested harder, make the trest harder for themselves then others. Everyone will go though the same test, in diffierent ways.

Some people need a hotter fire to purify the make up of them self, as a refiner purifies gold to get the dross out, so is each and everyone's life.

God doesn't exist. No one is "tested" harder. They're just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and caught in unfortunate situations.
