Thailand's Postal Service leaves a lot to be desired - and is rather hit and miss.

It is not particularly expensive but your best option is to use a freight forwarding company. However, if you're planning on posting anything that is fake or illegal ...beware! Mailed goods are the first things that are opened and checked when they hit your country - that's assuming they're not opened and pillaged before they leave Thailand.

You're far better off paying the excess baggage fees. You may well find that they will allow you far more than the statutory 22kgs (without charge) anyway.

Enjoy your trip. Thailand is a beautiful and inexpensive place to live - as well as to visit. Having lived throughout Asia for over 20 years - I have to say - you have chosen the best place to travel to!

xx

Forget about the Thai postal service! They are thieves! It may be ok for postal cards and plain letters BUT NOT for gift items which will never reach their destination.

Letters will take at least 3 weeks to reach North America or Europe. Post Offices are easy to find and costs of sending mail are inexpensive.

Living in Thailand for 10 years!

I used the post office to post boxes of stuff home on numerous occasions and never had any problems at all. Not particularly expensive and everything arrived safely. Never had any postal problems anywhere in Asia.

There are international couriers available easily in most of the shopping places for you to send stuff overseas to your country. Not the postal service.

United Parcel Service from bkk to USA for abt 30 kilo is abt 6000 baht or so.. - they are very fast too and secure... I think that is the max size.. the post office can be sluggish..

i sent some postcards, and they arrived back in the states, it wasnt too much. You can take two bags on the plane, and a carryon, that might be better than mailing it.
