Because honey is not a drink... you put it on food to eat.
Same with ketchup and mustard... you don't drink those condiments. You eat them.

Honey is one of those in-between substances that is more properly described as a suspension instead of a liquid or solid. Substances more dense than honey will sink to the bottom but will take quite awhile doing so and appear to be suspended within the sticky sweet goo.
Ketchup is another suspension. It's really just another word for a very dense, thick liquid but do you drink ketchup?

I think of a drink as something that will wash down what you eat. You do not drink water after drinking a soda to wash it down. After eating honey you would probably take a drink of something to wash it down.
If you normally put it in a glass you drink it. If you put it in a bowl or plate you eat it.

Do you drink it? No, you put it on something, and then you eat that. Since usually people are talking about it if its on like pancakes or something like that. Though, I guess if I was gonna drink honey (whyy??) then I wouldnt say I was gonna eat it, I would say I am gonna drink it.

Condiments....A condiment is a substance applied to food, usually in the form of a garnish, powder, or spread, to enhance or improve the flavor. Condiments are typically smeared with knives, squirted, or sprinkled onto other foods.
