I believe that the Earth has a natural cycle of warming and cooling. And our effect on the environment cannot be completely dismissed. Perhaps our planet has been in a warming trend for many hundreds of years and the industrial age has coincided with the event. When you consider our "contribution" and that volcanoes spew plenty of gas and dust to have been an effective part of a natural process since the beginning, then how can anyone argue that we aren't experiencing a warming trend?

In my own lifetime I have seen snow on a regular basis since I was born in 1960. Now I'll be surprised to see it once.

Not looking for a fight, just a mature discussion. Thank you.

We as a species have not been on this planet long enough, by far, to know exactly what global warming really is. How do we know that the planet has not done this same type of thing thousands of time before? As you state, volcanoes etc spew out tons of chemicals, ash, and gases into the atmosphere, and the planet still works just fine, so what makes us think that we are killing the planet? Yes, we may be contributing to the problem, but only in a very small degree. We are experiencing a warming trend, to be sure, but it could just be a natural occurrence of the earths doing, and not caused by our species as a whole.

Gee... when I was a little kid in grade school (back before Independence) they taught we were just coming out of an ice age, and the glacial melt caused the Great Lakes... then in high-school (shortly before electricity) they taught that very same thing... now Voila... we have... 50 years later an all new and improved reason for the warming... (groan) Global warming IS happening, a given, but not for the reasons our leftist liberal science sources, politicians and socialist press are reporting. The majority of scientific studies are now discounting Carbon Dioxide emitted by motor vehicles (burning of fossil fuels for our basic energy requirements) as a MAJOR cause. Geological history indicates natural solar cycles are the culprit, something politicians have no power over so they tend to ignore. The real short-term danger is in fact a buildup of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, but not the buildup of Co2. The real culprit is Methane, a far more potent greenhouse gas, being released into the atmosphere by the (natural) decay of Methane Hydrate occurring (naturally) frozen on the ocean floors, due to the gradual (natural) warming of ocean water by (natural) solar cycles, another item our politicians have absolutely no control over and the liberal media will never mention. Follow the money trail... They promote revenue and power by promoting fear. "We just have to do SOMETHING...You know"? So they continue to promote cars as the culprit, people and cars… which do we get rid of first?, (sound like something from the Pol Pot generation?)

I disagree with your statement. I realize that the majority of the world denies that a "global warming" is causing the natural disasters and record breaking hot and cold temperatures. I would just like to give you our side. To have an intelligent mature discussion... you must be willing to see both sides of an issue.

The atmosphere has a natural supply of "greenhouse gases." They capture heat and keep the surface of the Earth warm enough for us to live on. Without the greenhouse effect, the planet would be an uninhabitable, frozen wasteland.

Before the Industrial Revolution, the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere was in a rough balance with what could be stored on Earth. Through photosynthesis, for example, plants take in carbon dioxide while the process of respiration or metabolism releases CO2 back into the atmosphere.

The fossil fuels we burn to run our cars, trucks, factories, planes and power plants add to the natural supply of greenhouse gases. The gases—which can stay in the atmosphere for at least fifty years—are building up beyond the Earth's capacity to remove the gases and, in effect, creating an extra-thick heat blanket around the Earth.

The result is that the globe has heated up by about one degree Fahrenheit over the past century—and it has heated up more intensely over the past two decades.

If one degree doesn't sound like a lot, consider this: the difference in global average temperatures between modern times and the last ice age—when much of Canada and the northern U.S. were covered with thick ice sheets—was only about 9 degrees Fahrenheit. So in fact one degree is very significant—especially since the unnatural warming will continue as long as we keep putting extra greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

MYTH
Global warming is just part of one of the earth's natural cycles.

FACT
The global warming we are experiencing is not natural.People are causing it by burning fossil fuels and cutting down forests. Scientists have shown that these activities are pumping far more carbon dioxide (C02) into the atmosphere than was ever released in hundreds of thousands of years. This buildup of CO2 is the biggest cause of global warming. (IPCC 2001) Since 1895, scientists have known that CO2 and other greenhouse gases trap heat and warm the earth. As the warming has intensified over the past three decades, scientific scrutiny has increased along with it. Scientists have considered and ruled out other natural explanations such as sunlight, volcanic eruptions and cosmic rays. (IPCC 2001)

Though natural amounts of CO2 vary from 180 to 300 parts per million (ppm), today's CO2 levels are around 380 ppm. That's 25% more than the highest natural levels, looking back 650,000 years. Increased CO2 levels have corresponded with higher average temperatures throughout that long record. (Boden, Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center)

Sorry people the CO2 problem was taken care of with the introduction of plants . Plants take in the CO2 and keep the C and give us back the O2,a very efficient way of cleaning up our atmosphere. One of your answers said that the CO2 was several hundred parts per million . I calibrated gas sensors for years and I have never saw more than 2 parts per million. Their instrument is bad or out of calibration. Most of the time it is their calculation of what they want it to be. Bad science only to propagate a political lie. Plants have done a great job and the process is how they make their food. The plants need CO2 as much as u need oxygen.

I'm with you i.e. the planet has its own trends but I do believe our effect on the environment is considerable. There is no question that throughout history mankind has been less than sensitive to nature around us. We need to take a serious look at our consumption for SO MANY REASONS which go way beyond global warming.

Yes global warming is happening. Watch An Inconvenient Truth to find out more. Your theory is false and should be forgotten, the theory is shared by few other people and scientists that have no experience in the matter. Yes we do have cooling and warming periods but they are small and going on the rise. If it continues at the rate it is, soon a lot of us will die of heat, drowning and hurricanes that are off the scale, very few if not none of our civilization will survive if this happens. All of our cars combined are putting more CO2 then any other source combined (all the volcanoes lets say, which are rarely active).

I believe we are in a warming trend. But I have trouble believing that its all man's fault. That notion just screams of political agenda. I also don't believe the earth is frail. Life will prevail and so will humans, not matter if the global temperature go up or not.

I come from the tropics. Once upon a time ago, we had many trees. And the canopied area provided us much relief from the searing heat. Now with much of the trees lopped off in the name of 'development' you can actually sense the temperature change.

So i don't think global warming is NOT happening. It is happening - thanks to us.

Are you paying for the CO2 you produce ? If NO this means that like President Bush you strongly believe that global warming is not happening. We cannot imagine that all these people could be wrong !

The BIG Meltdown has already gone exponential, and perhaps the purpose of (allowing) such is that the love(God) of Christ "constraineth" us to judge something in 2Corinthians 5:14, which is followed by 2Corinthians 5:19 speaks of global "reconciliation" unto "that God": light void of darkness, who was in "Christ": "the end of the law"(Rom 10:4), not in Jesus: "made under the law"(Gal 4:4).

For peace with God and eternal salvation are notably "through Jesus -> Christ" which ends with the perfect man "Christ" (not the imperfect babe->child->man Jesus), in which things are an "allegory" in both "covenants": Gal 4 and "mystery"(noted 20 times); so allegoric mystery written "aforetime" for our "learning": Rom 15:4... to solve in time by find grace in time: Heb 4, lest "all perish" instead of "none perish" (when it's ended properly). And you can't have both all perish and none perish, so pick one, which is to say either make the tree good(grace) or corrupt(law).

Perhaps it is time to probate the will of God: "I will have mercy, and not sacrifice", which is to be done on earth, and by all if there is no respect of persons with God; Especially since doing the will of God notably precedes receiving the promise (is unto all if there is no respect of persons with God), and there's no inheritance to anyone whenever a will is stuck in probate mode. Any lawyer or judge will confirm such.

Perhaps the will of God that JC came to do: Heb 10 got finished before the cross, as the first "finished" in John 17 rather than the second finished in John 19; Especially since James 1:15 says of the second: sin, when "it is finished", brings forth death (not life).

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
