take it to the vet. there are 2 main types of mange on dogs and the sarcoptic kind can be transmitted to you. unless you want to have mange take your dog to the vet. there they have meds that will actuallly work. and if it isn't mange they will know what the next step is and not waste your money on treating something the dog may or may not have.

It depends on what kind of mange the dog has. There are two varieties, one is transmissible to humans but fairly easy to kill and is caught from other dogs (sarcoptic), and the other is actually a mite that normally lives on a dog's skin, but due to a poorly functioning immune system, is allowed to run rampant (demodex).
There are several ways to treat both types of mange, but you need to consult a vet first to see which is appropriate for your dog. The cheapest way would be a mange dip. This is a solution that is applied by your vet or you can do it yourself at home, but it's pretty toxic, so be careful. It may take several dips over a period of time to completely kill off the mange. Another treatment is Ivermectin injections, which is susposed to work fairly quickly, and isn't all that expensive. Usually takes one or two injections to kill the mange. There's also Revolution, a topical medication applied to the shoulderblades every two weeks for a month or two. This isn't too expensive, and works fairly quickly.
The vet will also prescribe antibiotics for the secondary bacterial infection caused by scratching, and possibly a cortisone injection to reduce the itchiness until the anti-mange medication takes effect.
Hope this helps...

This may sound crazy but where I work there is a stray dog the employees feed and are trying to tame. Being a stray he didn't have an owner to take him to the vet. He had a pretty bad case of mange and the guys here poured motor oil on him. It wasn't long before his coat was grown back beautifully. I've never tried it personally and I don't know what type of mange he had, but it worked for the dog around here so do what you will with that "home remedy".

Vinegar doesn't necessarally make it worse, but it doesnt help it much either, your dog will just end up looking and smelling like a rotten pickle. If you would like to get rid of the mange you should try peroxide as it will help cleanse the sore areas. It may not totally clean it but it could help aleviate your doggies itching. The best the to do is to talk to your local vetenarian, you can call them up and ask them what to do your local pet store or walmart should have the right cleaning shampoo to clear it up. But remember not all mange is the same.

Depends on the type of mange.
The demodex type is not cheap to fix and it can come back. It must be handled by a vet as there is n home cure. It takes weeks of shots and dip type baths to cure it and it can happen again.
The sarcoptic type can be transmitted to humans but is easier to cure. Still go to the vet and get the right meds and that type will clear up faster.
