Black ppl dont give a crap about MLK day or black history month (ok that sound pretty mean) but here's my theory a lot of low income blacks are less concern about "black proud" and more concern about making it day -to- day without the lights being "cut off". The ppl that are more into "being black" and celebrating are the ones who appear to have the American Dream the upper middle-class educated blacks.Of course low income blacks are proud of their ppl but then reality sets in "You a 40yr old man making $9.75 an hr. at the local piggy wiggly"My point is at the end of the King's holiday or at the end of black history month when we all move on, low-income blacks are still poor they get that and this is their reality.( I grew up poor this is hands-on observation)

My friend, I am a poor white boy and we are in the same boat. We need a new civil rights movement for all American workers. Dr. King helped get legal equality for all races but that has not changed the reality of economic inequality among all of the races. What Dr. King achieved was a huge step forward because now we can address that economic inequality together because of the work of him and his contemporaries. I see the same things you do. How come health care is not a universal human right? Is the rich man inherently more valuable than us? Not likely, we build this country. We grow the food. We deliver the goods. We pick up the trash. We fight the stupid wars that they started. We do all of the nedessary stuff and some of the unnecessary stuff. Why are there homeless people? Why are so many, or even any, unemployed? Why is minimum wage so low that no one could possibly live on it? We, all American workers, need a new Civil Rights Movement so that all of us can enjoy the fruits of our labor, so that we all can have the Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness that God meant for all of humanity. I do not believe that most poor people "don't give a crap". I believe most poor people regardless of race are so wrapped up in the daily struggle for survival that we often have no time left over for much else. The best we can do for now is lead by example and try to help others understand that they can make a difference.

why do blacks get the shortest month of the year to celebrate black history? furthermore there are many incentives and programs for those poor blacks to better themselves as far as education and income. nowadays, if you are poor, its because you want to be. you have to want to move up the ladder, u need to be motivated. this is what Dr. King preached and died for. He paved the way for blacks to get those high position jobs and not be discriminated against. He enforced abolishment of segregation laws so blacks can go to school with white people and receive the same education and learning to be equals. not just with blacks, but u need to be motivated to earn more and have a better lifestyle. a 40 year old working at the piggly wiggly is ok but i feel as though everyone can do better than that. the piggly wiggly shouldnt be his full time job and career.

Dude! Celebrating or memoralizing anything has nothing to do with the condition of people. I celebrate christmas for appreciation of the fact that God humbled Himself by becoming a man and dying for my sins. I celebrate that wether I'm doing well or struggling. Martin Luther King was an icon for the christian faith and the civil rights movement. Few people can imagine what life would be like without this man. He is still very inspiring. Just go to any website and listen to his words. Go pick up a book and see what he did. Amazing man that should be celebrated.

What are you doing to help others get out? Do you have a mentee that you are giving back to or a group of young blacks to help out in their struggle to show them the way? Since this in Religion, are you a Christian who is being a witness and a help to those who are lost

AND BETTER YET

Stop talking about it and start having some ACTION about it.
Yes I am Black and Proud of It. Praying and doing ACTIONS to help bring about a Change.

One day you'll come to realize the great freedoms given back to us thanks to Mr. King. I'm not going to go into the benign income theory you have, but if we were growing up 70 years ago you wouldn't even have the freedom to speak your mind.

I recommend stop being so ignorant and come to appreciate today, the legacy of this great man has brought millions to tears, including myself, and you know what? He made a difference.

Stop criticizing greatness and show respect for the ones that gave us our freedom!

You can thank liberals for that. They claim to care about black people, but in reality they keep black people poor. They lie to them, give them false hope, and use them as a tool to get votes for the democrat party.

Look at New Orleans. It has had a democrat mayor for over 40 years. The state of Louisiana has had a democrat governor for over 40 years. 40 years of democrats and New Orleans blacks are some of the poorest people in the nation period!

But libs say they care! Care my azz!

Note: The person who just gave a thumbs down did so because they hate it when I expose their hypocrisy for what it is!

Sorry but there are poor white people too. I am not racist but we get railed if we say the n word but black comedians can call us honkeys or crackers or whatever they want to. Sorry but blacks aren't the only ones that are discriminated against.
