I have been excercising on a regular basis for the past 3 months. I go to the gym 3-4 days a week and excercise for an hour (cardio) at a time. On the days that I excercise, I can't seem to fall asleep. On the weekends, I will excercise in the middle of the day, around 2 in the afternoon. Like yesterday, I went at 3 in the afternoon and was up until at least 1 last night. Is it just me, or do other people have restless sleep paterns after vigorous excercise?
What can I do to help? I'd rather not take any meds for it.

Exercising actually increases your energy after you finish working out. Try doing your cardio routine in the morning before you get ready to go to work. Then shower and go to work. You'll find that you have more energy for work. And that it's easier to concentrate on your job. It works for me, and I have ADHD. I find that it helps me settle and concentrate. Do yoga of a evening as it is a method that encourages relaxation and stretching. Good luck

Well, maybe that schedule isn't working. Try 30 minutes of cardio and some yoga, pilates, or gentle stretches to quiet your body/mind. Maybe even a moderate pace on a treadmill would be better?
I find when I do strenuous/cardio workouts in the evening, I get a little wired, so I walk instead.

First, I would recommend that you do your exercise as early in the day as possible. What happens when one exercises is that the activity sparks the endorphin - enkephalin cascade in the brain. This affects all areas of the brain and, especially the parts that put you to sleep. The exercise should help, but if you exercise late in the day, you could be stimulating yourself and keeping yourself awake. Earlier allows your brain to run through the full cascade, and this should actually help you to get to sleep at nigh.

Exercising earlier than mattress will deliver your frame a burst of vigour and you will not be ready to sleep. Drinking caffeine four-6 hours earlier than mattress will make it difficult to sleep. It is excellent to hinder caffeine and recreation usually. If you recreation within the afternoon, you're much more likely to sleep higher.

I think that alot of people find that the extra workout in the day can make them more restless at nighttime so I suggest that you do your exercises in the mornings. Good luck!

i don't know all about that. i know that when you exercise you don't go to sleep immediately. i know that you get all sweaty and your dehydrated. the best thing to do is to take a bath and lay down. sooner or later you will fall asleep.
