The patient meets with an orthodontist who takes an impression and x-rays of the patient’s teeth, fills out an Invisalign prescription form and sends the impression, x-rays and prescription to the Align Technology lab.

·At Align’s lab, a mold is poured of the patient’s teeth and digitized. Align uses its proprietary computer software to generate a start-to-finish 3-D movie that shows the series of movements of the patient’s teeth from the current position to the desired final position.

The orthodontist reviews and approves the 3-D movie and from these images, Align Technology produces a series of clear, plastic "aligners."

The patient wears each stage of "aligners" (usually consisting of a pair, one on the upper teeth and one on the lower) for approximately two weeks before switching to the next in the series. Week by week, the patient’s teeth are straightened; millimeter by millimeter. Total treatment time is similar to traditional braces and usually ranges from 6 to 24 months depending on the complexity of the case.

Impressions are made of your teeth and from those, models looking exactly like your mouth. Along with these, photos and xrays are mailed to the Invisalign lab. Using 3-D technology, the technicians show how your teeth can move to line up with the doctor's prescription.

A series of aligners is manufactured - from 7 to 20 of them. Each new aligner puts a little pressure on the teeth to move them into place. Over time - between 6 months and 2 years - the teeth are gradually "nudged" into place so your teeth are straight.

You wear the clear aligners at least 22 hours per day, taking them out only to eat or clean your teeth.

actually the dentist use what is called a finishing strip (like a tiny strip of sand paper) or a sandpaper disc and gradually file down the teeth to create more space for the movement. I have never had a case where we took more than 3mm from any one tooth so the appearence of the teeth were never very different but it does cause some sensitivity. We always recommend the patients that were using Invisaligns to use a higher dose of flouride to help with the sensitivity.

I was at the dentist and I saw a video about this.

They take some photos of your teeth every time you visit and they use a computer to figure out precisely where to move your teeth. Then using the measurements they make you a new invisalign thing every time you visit. You wear it for a month or so, and your teeth move slightly every time. You do that over and over for a year or two and you have nice straight teeth.
