Prob after 2 - 3 months after the terrible events everything was cleaned up. Alot of the places were up and running during the next week after the event.

Tourism dropped alittle but got back to normal after about 6 months.

Some of the Islands that got hit have had to do some building work on the shore where it was washed away, so thats really the only thing you will see. I was there during the Tsunami and helped with the clear up, alot of the places depending on the direction were never hit. The places that were you couldnt tell it happened.

I went there a few months back, everything is good, you wouldn't even know a tsumani had struck there, the only thing they were doing was rebuilding childrens playground on the beach, it was unbelieveable how the wave had twisted metal bars from the playground, but other than that phuket was great except for the smell. I got a shock when we went, it stinks everywhere in the main shopping area of Phuket, we called it Poo-ket, it could have been from the tsumani with thier raw sewrage but you can't smell it in the restaurants or hotels.
Anyway have fun, By the way it is soo hot you wont need to take a jumper all anything at all!
If you want to ask me anything else just email me!

In Phuket itself you won't see anything damaged. In fact, on the Phuket island, there was not much destruction, despite the alarmist reports from the media.

People who had been there before 2004 will notice that behind many beaches there are now large empty pools designed to break and contain large waves in the event of an other tsunami. Escape routes are clearly marked.

In Phi-Phi the reconstruction is not quite complete but there are no problem to go there and stay.

You will be quite safe, for the past 2 years, there has been no such scare and not expected for a while more. Just ask the many people who had gone over just last year.
