.Lexapro is one of the better drug out there now with very few side effects. It takes a couple of weeks to kick in and you will notice the very day it does it will feel like a black cloud has been lifted :) So hang in there. I find walking helps alot with my anxiety and nervousness. Or listening to your favorite music.
Best of luck to you :)

It can take up to six weeks, but you can usually feel relief in 2-3 weeks.
I hope you are in counseling along with the drug therapy. The two often work best together. And if the Lexapro doesnt work, dont give up! You might just need to try another drug.
My husband has been trying to get his medication worked out for 4 years now. I think we are finally on the right track, but it takes time to find the perfect combination. Good luck and dont give up just because the first thing you tried didnt work! But give this about a month and if you dont feel any relief then talk to your doctor about changing the dose, changing the medicine, or adding another drug to the Lexapro.

How Long Lexapro Takes to Work: Like all SSRIs Lexapro starts to work anywhere from a couple days to over a month, but many who have tried other SSRIs report that Lexapro kicks in faster than the competition, with about one to two weeks being reported frequently. One large meta-analysis (pooling data of published studies) concluded that Lexapro pretty much works in a week. The standard line with SSRIs is the "if you don't feel any positive benefit after six weeks, then you should talk to your doctor about either another SSRI or trying a med that hits another neurotransmitter. " With Lexapro cut that down to three weeks to a month.

Any anti-depressent takes a maximum of three weeks to kick in. KEEP TAKING IT! I've been on Lexapro for years and it does work for me. Don't stop just b/c you don't feel better, and don't stop later down the road b/c you're still having symptoms. Lexapro is not a cure-all. You still need to go to therapy.

I am on Lexapro. I was on 10mgs for about a month and a half. I told the dr. I felt a little better but not how I felt when I was taking paxil.I was doing real good when I was on paxil, but seeing on how I am so big he didnt want to put me on paxil because he said it causes people to gain wieght. So anyway he jacks me up 10 more mgs. So now i have been taking 20mgs for damn near a month and still dont feel as well as I should. So my opinion for lexapro-----------two thumbs down.

All anti-depressants take two to six weeks before you can tell a difference. I took Lexapro for over two years and also other anti-depressants for over fourteen years. However, over the last year and half I have weaned myself slowly off these drugs as the side effects are too damaging and also they don't really work!

It takes a couple of weeks, and usually they step the dosage up over time. If you get too much, you feel no emotions at all.
