Sorry - it's footage shot with an analogue camcorder. I want to primarily remove the sound on it and add music so it makes better viewing.

Ok in that case I think the easiest way is if you got a converter card or deck for your computer. Your camera should have component (red, yellow, white) cables, so if you got a capture card, you could plug those into the computer and capture the footage. Cards cost around $50-$100, so go to your nearest electronics store and ask them about an analog to digital converter card. Or if you have a new camera or if you know some one who has a miniDV camera, see if it has av pass through. If it does, then all you need to do is connect your old camera to your tv or vcr, and connect the miniDV camera to your tv or vcr and your computer. After you've captured the footage, you can use movie maker (xp) or imovie (osx) or a similar program to mute the sound, or lower the volume and add music. Hope this helps!

The Life Aquatic of Steve Zissou had a a really great soundtrack, particularly the use of Sigur Ros track "Staralfur". Actually, Wes Anderson's films always seem to have great soundtracks, he's really got an ear for picking the perfect song to match a certain scene. And I agree with MachPen about Donnie Darko, that soundtrack is flawless. And the scene in Fight Club when "Where Is My Mind" by the Pixies is playing is brilliant too.
