Well, *I* don't want to hear much about my BF's exes either and yes it is unpleasant to me to hear about anything they did. What I think it is is that I am envious of a time period in which I wasn't in his life. Neither of us can help it but it is hard for me to picture him with anyone else but ME in his life. I don't want a mental picture of him with someone else.

Getting hurt and ending relationships is painful no matter your age. As you mature you expect things to go better and when they don't, the pain can last for a long time. Whether you are the one who breaks off a relationship or the one who gets left, there are a lot of emotions to deal with. And just when you think you've gotten over it, someone brings up your ex's name in casual conversation and BOOM!!! there's the old feelings smacking you in the face. A broken love affair is much like a death. The feelings gradually soften around the edges but they never quite go away. You just learn to accept that and go on.

I don't blame you. If you are together now, the ex's should be just that....ex's and out of your mind. I guess sometimes people just can't put what was done to them behind them. But I think once you move into another relationship, it is disrespectful to always bring up the ex's. I think mentioning them everyday would make me wonder if the other person was ready to move forward.
