I am not sure if they are lost. They can be overshadowed by other things. I am sure certain types of brain damage could lead to losing some instincts.

Only if you were using your thought processes to the extent that you completely overrode your instinctive ability to operate.

Still they would not be lost. All that would be necessary would be for you to stop intellectualizing so much for the instincts to kick back in.

You can condition yourself to behave differently, but it would be difficult to kill a full fledged instinct like breathing or sleeping. Still, it can be done. Obviously we have those instincts for a good reason. lol
