than the live of people from other parts of the world, for example, Germans, Iraqis, Iranians, Ethiopians, Indians, Japanese, etc...

it seems to me like there's a lack of basic reverence for human worth coming from America, unless those lives be American, or more generally, Western.

I know it's not true for all Americans but it seems prevalent enough to me to freak me out.

Not more valuable but I think it is easier to identify with your own countrymen than someone from some place in the world you have never seen.

No, we do not value American lives more then anyone else. The problem is, Every other country thinks we should let them kill us and we should not retaliate. Millions of Americans have died all over the world trying to protect the people there. The problem is, people like you do not want to remember the fallen heroes of America.
The civilians killed in every country that America was asked to help were put on the backs of the Americans.
In Vietnam, the VC would go into a village and kill all of the civilians and then shoot at an American patrol. When we shot back the VC would go in a take pictures of the villagers and give the pictures to our news media. (Dan Rather) And they would plaster it on the evening news. "American Military Kills Civilians."
The fact that an investigation was done and the military discovered the weapons that killed the civilians were communist, was not news worthy. Don't think for a moment that our enemies do not know how to manipulate our Liberal News Media. And our Liberal News Media LOVES to make our military look as bad as they can. They lie and cheat and do everything they can to prosecute our military for doing their job. And when it is discovered that they were wrong, "Well, that story is not news worthy."
That's a long way around saying, "Get Your Information From Some Place Other Then The Liberal News Media."

It appears that .....Your question is slanted to make you feel good about your country. While it is easier to identify with countrymen that live in and defend your nation - that does not mean that America has no compassion for its fellow human beings.

If any of what you say was true.........America would not of been half way around the world after the tsunami of 2004,almost immediately, the United States put together an aid package of $15 million.
We would not be spending billions of dollars every year feeding the poor of Africa or treating Aids patients in foreign countries while seemingly ignoring the fact we have Aids in America and poverty is a fact of life here.

United States supplies more than one-fifth of the United Nations' total budget (and 57 percent, 33 percent and 27 percent of the budgets for the World Food Program, the Refugee Agency, and Department of Peacekeeping Operations, respectively). We've been the United Nations' biggest donor every year since 1945.

BUT whenever there's a catastrophe ,the US is asked to dig deep into his pocket for more money. American citizens send some $34 billion in private aid around the world every year.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is nice to know our effects are met with so much - love and appreciation around the world. Then I forgot - ACCORDING to you we only care about our own countrymen.
As a parent, if one of my kids were in the military and in harms way, I would be tempted to find my way to that theater of operation just so I could watch over him. I wouldn't care a bit about the people he might be killing because my instincts would be to kill them all. There lives would mean nothing to me, and my own child's life would mean everything to me.
The US has displayed more humanity than any country on earth, yet it also has the capacity to destroy life, if attacked. This, I suppose reveals the duality of man! We will be as humane as you want us to be, until you cross us, then your life isn't worth a plug nickel!
Life is important to Americans. We would much rather be aiding a helpless people than we would, killing an adversary! We look at no man as not being our equal, and we prefer diplomacy over aggression. Race, color or creed play very little part in our decision to turn our back or defend a people under duress.
Yet, when a religion uses it's doctrine to attack America, it is no longer a recognized religion, it is a devil worshiping sect. It will no longer be treated with the respect commonly given a religion, it will be treated with suspicion and disdain. The same hold true of a minority country. We no longer jump into the fray when an African nation is under duress. We analize the situation carefully and usually wind up offering support and intelligence to the warring faction we deem to be our ally.
I Think ur right. Americans think that and american life is worth like 100 other lives. IF 2 americans die its a big deal to them but if its 30 iraqis that died then its nothing to them its just a number. To them any ones life in the middle east or africa is the least valuable then its people in asia and then its the europeans and fianlly the most "valuable" is americans. THey need to realize we're all the same species and that were all the same. Every life is just as valuable as the next
I do value the lives of most Americans more than I do the lives of others from the Middle East.
When I hear that Iraqi's (whether they were terrorists or not) were killed by a roadside bomb, I feel little to no sympathy.
I know that is wrong, and as a Christian I should not feel bitter towards those people, but I cannot help it.
It's too loaded of a question. If someone were to ask me if I thought my child's life was more valuable than the President of any nation, I would say yes.
If America did not consider other lives valuable, than what have we been doing in Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and countless other operations that are not ever mentioned?
Heck NO! However, when it comes to the saying of "kill or be killed" then, ANY soldier will go into "Self Preservation Mode"!
As for the actual events that led up to the current status of our military - including Iraq and Afghanistan - I don't think the Terrorists were all that concerned with the lives of innocent people!
The US provides security for Germany and Japan and recently backed up Ethiopia in their peace keeping mission in Somolia. Most of Europe has been protected by a defensive umbrella provided by the US since WW2. The US have always been concerned about humanity.
Our medics have even taken care of the wounded enemy. America considers EVERYONE'S life valuable, unlike people like the TERRORISTS who use innocent men/women/children as shields, knowing Americans won't take the chance of harming those folks just to get at the TERRORISTS.
If you haven't been there SHUT UP AND QUIT SHOWING YOUR IGNORANCE!
