Slow Cooker Pot Roast:

INGREDIENTS

salt and pepper to taste
1 packet dry onion soup mix
1 cup water
3 carrots, chopped
1 onion, chopped
3 potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 stalk celery, chopped

DIRECTIONS
Take the chuck roast and season with salt and pepper to taste. Brown on all sides in a large skillet over high heat.
Place in the slow cooker and add the soup mix, water, carrots, onion, potatoes and celery.
Cover and cook on low setting for 6 to 8 hours.

Sounds good! You can slow cook it very easily.

Pop it in the slow cooker, put maybe a 1/2 cup of liquid - I like about 1/4 cup of stock and 1/4 cup of wine (red) - you want at least 1-2" of liquid in the bottom to start with (you can add more if it boils out as you go - or you can start with a full cup of liquid to start with if you won't be home to peek through the glass top). Then, choose the seasonings you like (you can use just about any kind, but it's even awesome with just some salt and pepper - don't go overboard with it because slow cooked meats stew in their own juices and it gets its own wonderful flavor.

Other spices you can use would be some Essence (by Emeril) or steak rub - Season salt, garlic, onion powder, Cup-a-soup packages (I like the french onion - but if you use these C-A-S pkgs, shake it up really really well and spoon out just enough to cover the top of the roast).

When you have about 2 - 2 1/2 hours left of cooking, go ahead and add your veggies if they're fresh (if they're frozen, maybe a little less because they can get very mushy with all the ice crystals that will melt). Carrots potatoes and onions sound perfect. You might also throw some fresh green beans in there too - but I'd add them only about an hour and 1/2 before finish time.

You could put this on low for 6-8 hours, depending on how well done you want it and how much you want it to fall apart. Have a great dinner!

I always brown the roast and use enough water to cover it half way. If I didn't have the spice mix that came in a bag, I usually use salt, pepper, garlic salt, and Lea & Pepperns Worcestershire sauce . If you go with high, cook for 4-6 hours, low for 8-10.

This is very simple - place roast in cooker add 1 Tablespoon salt and 1/2 Tablespoon cracked pepper, roughly chop carrots, potatoes and onions, add to roast-add 1 cup liquid (coffee, broth, juice, beer or water) cover and set to medium. When you come home the roast will be perfect!

sear the meat on all sides in a hot cast iron skillet. put the veggies on the bottom of the slow cooker, place meat on top and cover with beef broth or stock. add some onions and garlic and cook until the meat falls apart, about 5 or 6 hours on high, but check after 4 1/2 hrs.

I always sear (brown) my roast on all sides, place in crockpot, cover halfway with liquid, add a packet of dry onion soup mix, and a can of cream of mushroom soup and cook til tender. Add veggies towards the end so they don't get too mushy.

I usually don't cook mine in the crockpot since I can't add veggies in there (too small). So I make mine on the stove top in a big sauce pot. Cook roast 2 hours on low heat, add veggies at the last 45 minutes.

The onion soup mix and cream of mushroom soup makes a great sauce.
