I talked with a recruiter a short time ago, and he said that in order to join any branch of the United States Armed Services you need a highschool diploma or equivallent.

My husband is a NCO in the Air Force. As far as I understand you must have a H.S. diploma to enlist. The Air Force is selective with who they let in. I think if you have a GED you must have a certain amount of college credit hours. When I was in ROTC they had just made the HS diploma a requirement but if you had a GED you must get a waiver or something.

I doubt that a GED will get you into the air force. This is the one branch of service that is not struggling for new recruits, therefore they can afford to be choosy. They would probably perfer some college amongst their new recruits, but that's just a guess!

Call the local air force MEPS facility for current requirements!

right now, you can't even get ointo the AF without a HS diploma. they are downsizing big time. The Amry and the Guard have the most slots available for GED holders. or, you could take 15 100 level or higher college credits( basoically one semester/5 classes) and your GED will then be treated the same as a HS diploma.

the "other" branches only have so many GED slots and these have plenty of caveats. The Army and Army Reserve will allow you to enlist with a GED and a passing score of 31 on the ASVAB.

Don't expect really excellent MOSs.

yes... you are supposed to have your G.E.D. or Diploma before trying to join the military. The only deviation to this is if you want to join at the age of 17, your parents would have to give their consent and sign with you. Check with your local recruiter(s) for more information. Good luck.

Thee chair farce do not employ stupid poepel. =D In my section (with a variety of of highschool dropouts), the military gained't settle for the GED or CHSPE and they infrequently are going to settle for my 15 college credit. They require a higher AFQT than the USA of a/USMC. NSW/SF will settle for GEDs, notwithstanding the military ordinarily gained't immediately. The Air rigidity gained't settle for a GED in my section, yet they have a particular attempt/application for persons with a CHSPE or a house college severe college degree. They require a higher AFQT score than us of a/USMC. Para Rescue/SF in trouble-free words settle for prime college diplomas. the military will take my CHPSE, provided i'm getting my GED and/or 15 college credit when I enlist, and they'd favor that i'm getting my 15 college credit/severe college degree first. RANGERs and eco-friendly Berets/SF in trouble-free words settle for prime college diplomas. The Marine Corps gained't settle for a GED in my section, and insist 15 college credit or a severe college degree, and do not recognize the CHSPE. (apparently the 'higher ups' have "under no circumstances heard of it") rigidity Recon/SF will in trouble-free words settle for prime college diplomas.

Historicly, this has changed with the recruiting needs. Bush wants to recruit now so that he gan get his 20,000 troops in Iraq. They may let down recruiting standards temporarily to fulfill this need.

I wouldn't bet the farm that they will relax this standard though. Congress may not let him fund his plan.

YES!!! You need a HS diploma for all branches
