She probably did see demons, irregardless of her being a woman or a Catholic. It happens all the time, but people just are in denial of it.

The woman upon whom the story is based was not crazy, possessed or anything of the sort. She was ill, suffering from mental disorders that were not properly diagnosed or treated. She was forced to undergo a sham of an exorcism, essentially tortured, and she died tragically, a death which could have been prevented had anyone cared enough to look past the 'demonic' aspect of her illness and get her the help she needed. This poor woman is to be pitied, and those who put her through that exorcism deserved a punishment far more serious than what they actually received.

Emily Rose was possessed by a or several demons. Of course people that don't believe demon possession is possible are going to diagnos a person as crazy.

The truth is, as always, in the eye of the beholder. Schizophrenics who are placed in a brain scan (EEG) show activation of the auditory and language cortex when they claim to hear voices. They aren't lying, they really do hear voices.

If I recall, they did no conclusive tests and it's still debated about. She died, and no autopsy is going to prove or disprove demonic possession. She believed, as did her family, that she was under demonic possession, and that is often enough.
