MSCONFIG doesn't work in Windows 2000!!!

Disabling startup programs within Windows 2000 isn't nearly as simple as it is in Windows 9x/Me, where you can manage that task from within the System Information program. The only way to disable startup items that aren't in your Startup folder is to open up Regedit and browse to

[HLKM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\
WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\RUN]

From there, you can manually delete the values, which are starting the unwanted applications. I would recommend that you export the values that you intend to delete, however, just in case you make an error.

I'm sorry to say that in Win 2000 the "msconfig" method will not work. You can copy msconfig.exe from WinXP to Win 2000's C:\Windows\system32, and then the "msconfig" method will work.
Another way, you can disable starup via the registry editor, Run "regedit", then find keys in HLM\software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersions\Run
then delete the keys those you want to disable

Go to start. then run. Then type msconfig in the box. Then a window will open, click on the start up tab, and you can disable/enable programs from there. Good Luck!
