From a religious perspective I suppose anything that one does that is considered to shorten one life span, would be like committing suicide, these would include, smoking, using drugs, drinking, not getting enough sleep, and not eating right.
However, if you want to get right down to brass facts.. Breathing is deadly in todays world. Depending on where you live simply breathing the air outside could kill you.. all the carbon monoxide we inhale can not be considered healthy or life extending.
So does this mean we are all committing a slow suicide?
Hope this helps

Smoking and Drinking are social sins, not spiritual ones. If you follow the logic that doing these things are suicidal then it would stand to reason that we could add candy bars and bacon and driving a car for that matter. I personally do not smoke or drink anymore. I am an addict and do not like being controlled by anything other then GOD.
P.S.
If any defect in the body is not fitting for the Holy Spirit then nobody with cancer or aids could be saved.

No! Gluttony Is! Eating yourself into 300-400 pounds beyond normal weight is Gluttony and is a quicker route to shortening your life span!
By the way, if you drink caffeine beverages like coffee, tea or sodas, national legislation is being proposed that will stop you from drinking it, whether you over do it or not. What happened to informed personal choice? Schools in Nevada have already done it. You need to take a closer look as to who is behind some of this and if they are trying to legislate all of their religious nonsense into law! They have the "Appearance of being Holy without Being Holy!" Jesus warned people about these types of people and churches. They are the modern day Pharisees and Sadducee's!
By the way, the Senate and Congress are trying to pass Senate Bill 1, Section 220 to stop you from calling, emailing, faxing and writing them about anything! Your religious beliefs are at stake and you could be severely penalized for passing information around shortly, for disseminating information about what they are doing! There were only 10 Commandments plus one, aded by Jesus to love one another!

Yes, that is why they dont allow smoking or drinking. And we all know that people talk about Jesus drinking wine but that is a different story because we drink till we get drunk which that leads us to no control of our self but Jesus drink to clean his body and he only took a sip not 5 cups.

1 Corinthians 6:12
"Everything is permissible for me"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"—but I will not be mastered by anything.

It is a defiling of the TEMPLE of GOD. Your body is a temple according to the scriptures. HE would not want you to do this to HIS TEMPLE.
To become a real Christian, we are told that we must HEAR the WORD in John 6:45, Jesus said, “It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught by God. Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.” We are also told so in Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. We are told the we must BELIEVE in Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. We are also told so in Mark 16:16, Jesus said “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” and in John 5:24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life. We are told that we must REPENT (or turn from sin) in Luke 13:3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Also in Acts 17:30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent. We are told to CONFESS CHRIST in Romans 10:9-10 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. We are also told in 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. We are to be BAPTIZED according to Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” and Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. We are to CONTINUE to be FAITHFUL UNTIL DEATH according to Revelation 2:10c Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. We also know that Paul wrote in Romans 14:12 each of us shall give account of himself to God. It is important that we not ignore what is written, change what is written, or add to what is written in the New Testament which is our Christian Guide. Have a great week.
