I am 24 years old and I have never been to the dentist. My parents never took me with I was younger and when I became old enough to realize I should go and I could take myself, I was too embarrassed. I know I should really go but I'm scared, not only of what I might need done but of any ridicule. I have no idea what to expect, no idea how to even pick a dentist. I brush twice a day but I know I need a lot of work done. I know I'll need braces but it's embarrassing at my age. Could anyone help me out with my questions?

Does anyone know a price range for braces?

How long do you have to wear braces?

Does anyone know how easy it is to get those invisible braces?

What are the normal procedures done in a dentist office?

What happens if you need a tooth removed? Is it replaced with something or do you just have a gap?

Please, any feedback would be welcome just so I am better prepared. Thank you!

How long do you have to wear braces? depends what they want to do and how bad your teeth are
Does anyone know how easy it is to get those invisible braces? thats after you have most of your teeth moved
What are the normal procedures done in a dentist office? they normally just see the "progress" of the movement of your teeth and change the rubber bands on the braces about 10 - 20 minutes
What happens if you need a tooth removed? Is it replaced with something or do you just have a gap? they remove it, its a gap ... if they want it pulled chances are they want your old teeth to move in that area

You shouldn't worry abou the ridicule. Professionals in a dental office are some of the nicest people. They won't tell you that your nasty. You should call and set up and initial appt which will be a series of x-rays of your teeth to see what i going on. Then the dr will do an initial exam..That will be looking at your xrays looking in your mouth, talking about your fears and what you want done and what your looking for with your treatment. YOu dr will then let you know what is needed. I don't know much about braces but your general can refer you to and orthodontist that's the best way to go with braces.

Normal procedues..That's a very broad question. In my office we do everything from fillings to Root Canals to Crown and Bridges, dentures, extractions, implants, and differnet surgical procedures.

If you have a tooth removed there will be an open socket and it will fill in but you will have a gap where the tooth way removed. There are many options in replacing that tooth or mulitipy teeth. The two options would be dental implants which replace the root and make it took like a real tooth or you can get a partial if its multiply teeth. Or you can get a bridge...You just need to talk to you dentist about it....Good Luck
It's not that bad you'll be fine

i have recently started going to the dentist after a 10 year gap. and was petrified at what i would need doing and also the cost but after all the worry the dentist said all i needed was one filling, so my advice to you is dont worry, pick a dentist that someone else goes to this way you know they are ok. stop thinking about everything you think you need and let the dentist decide, you might end up lucky like me and need only a small amount done. good luck

First of all, congratulations that you are thinking of going to the dentist! You'll be glad you did this for yourself. No dental professional will ridicule you. When you first go to their office, tell them your history. They will probably smile nicely and tell you you have done a good thing. Dental professionals choose that for their work because they want to help people. Also, these days it's very common for people even in their 30s and 40s to get braces. Good luck!
