Take it and get it inspected before you buy it, even if a representative from the Canadian dealer insists on going with you. If they wont let you then tell them this is a condition of purchase, other wise your not interested. After all, if they don't let you then they might be trying to cover something up.

Several things:

1. If it's a Canadian spec car you may not be able to import it at all. Unless it has a label that states that it meets US safety and emissions standards you can't import the car. Check the label on the driver's door jamb to be sure.

2. The Cavalier wasn't a very reliable model. Get a professional inspection first.

3. Many US branded vehicles are made in Canada and Mexico. In and of itself that doesn't mean anything -- I've got a Ford Fusion that was made in Mexico and it's an extremely reliable car.

4. The price looks pretty good according to both the NADA and Kelly Blue Book sites, about $1,000 below book on a private sale. He says that he's willing to negotiate so if it checks out on a mechanical inspection you could have a pretty good deal going.

STAY AWAY! this sounds like a scam to me!! and any car that is manufactured in another country may give you difficulty passing your states emissions test. different countries have different emissions standards
