I have a 5 mo old kitten and he sometimes bites. I've tried the water bottle thing, I tried the grasping the back of the neck and holding him there, he just gets mad and keeps his mouth open. I tried time out, he cries and eventually we let him out. Nothing has really worked yet. Don't get me wrong, when he's not biting, he's perfect and he doesn't always bite. He lets me bathe him, cut his nails, brush his teeth and brush him. He's extremely affectionate, he grooms my facial hair, he comes to us to sleep. He's never scratched anybody EVER. He just bites and it's not out of anger, he's playing, but he's getting stronger and its starting to hurt. When he gets angry with me trying to discipline him, he keeps his mouth open and doesn't let me touch him, but he doesn't attack me. I read that someone said when he bites to put your finger in his mouth and press down on his tongue, it represents you biting him back.. Oh and how to get him to stop using us and jumping posts

My kitty has lots of toys. Everything that has a string attached to it, he's torn through the string. I also have a laser light, it works, but sometimes when I grab him, he things i'm playing and he goes into play mode and starts biting...

Oh, and my cat doesn't like other cats. I had my friends kitten over for a day, I was watching her for her. My cat was growling at her and wouldn't take his eyes off her. I let him go for a second and he lunged at her with his nawls out and all, I caught him by his back legs and stopped him. He likes dogs though, but we won't get a dog in our house.

Have him neutered NOW! Also adopting another kitten will give your kitty someone to really get rowdy with. He and the other kitten can rough house with each other and leave the gentle play for you and the other humans in your house.
Additional note: Cats differ from dogs, in that it takes TIME for them to get aquainted. Trust me, in a matter of a few days your kitty and the new kitty will be best of friends.
I introduced a new cat into my household. Buck is 4.5 years old and I brought home 2.5 year old Caleb. They became best of friends within a week. They tussle and romp around like kittens!

Is kitten play, and the older one is peeved that you have another little ratbag of a kitten (smiling cos meant in fun) that is a pain in the butt Has your little one been desexed as yet? If not, may be an idea to do that. For him biting you, grab him by the scruff of the neck (is what mum does) and say no and put him down and away from you. Even in a different room. It is also a good idea to put the kitten in a different room/cat enclosure for a while so the older cat can have some alone time with you. I have introduced young animals into a house of older animals a number of times, both cats and dogs and have found this has worked well. But if the young ones isn't de-sexed, get it done asap, that will calm the little one down a little bit (at least) Good luck with it

The scratching part is easy...have the kittens nails trimmed at a groomer or vet every few weeks. Sure saved OUR legs. They just clip off the sharp end, just like with a dog or parrot.

It's the nature of a kitten to play that way.
But, to stop a cat from doing something you don't want it to do.
Clap your hands and say the word "NO" very loudly and firmly.
According to my Vet the water bottle thing is not good for two reasons..
1. The cat doesn't associate the water bottle with the bad behavior, it associates it with you and can cause the cat to be afraid of you.
2. He told me that if you should happen to squirt the cat in the face with the water it could ...over a period of time cause an over growth of yeast in the cats eyes, ears, or nose which would result in a trip to the Vet.
Trying the clapping and saying "No" very loudly and firmly...we have four cats and it's worked for all of them.
Also if the kitten isn't neutered, having that done can also cut down on the aggressive behavior plus it reduces the risk of cancer, spraying and if your cat would happen to get outside it would stop him from adding to the over population of cats.

Your kitty needs some toys! He's probably lonely for other kitty cats. I had a cat that did that, and when I finally got another cat, that behavior stopped--with us anyway, now the cats go at it together. But if you're not prepared to have two cats, please make sure your cat has lots and lots of toys. They love those things that look like fishing poles with feathers on the end because they can jump up and work off a lot of energy. Another great toy is a lazer light. Shine it all over the walls, and watch them go nuts. They love it. Good luck!

If the bottles not working when he hurts you yell owe loud so it will surprise him. If that doesn't work hold him down until he stops wiggling , then let him up. if you squirt him in the face that should stop him so I am surprised that doesn't work. Be consistent with him. You can give him a treat when he stops and tell him good kitty . Cats can learn if you use lots of treats just cut down on his food if you give him lots of treats so he doesn't get chubby. Play with him using toys so he can bite them. He is a kitten & may grow out of it.

Our two kittens love to do this when we are in bed, they cannot tell that it is our feet, just something moving under the covers. We tell them no and after a few minutes they usually settle down. They also jump up my legs when i am wearing a skirt, they like the swishing movement. They will grow out of it, it just must be fun for them.

We went through the same thing! We tried everything My husband even put cold water on him to stop it but nothing worked I personally think it`s playinng but when they get very wound up it hurts, we usually will stop playing with him when he starts and he kinda gets the idea that if he does it we`re not gonna play and he`ll stop for a bit but our older cats just eventually grew out of it!

They way I trained my cat to not do that is I would firmly say NO and it wouldn't listen I would flick it's nose. Not hard just enough to get it's attention. That will work now my cats don't bite or scratch me they scratch and bite my husband, but not me.
