What is the ultimate purpose of life?What should one do to make life meaningful?

Question

Can anything in this transient world give lasting satisfaction?Of course,pursuit of materialistic pleasures,leaves one totally disillusioned.
What is it then,which is of real significance?
Is it love?
Is it selfless service?
Is it in total submission to God's Will?

I ask this same question once in a meditation. The answer came clear as a bell.

It said I have placed you here to learn the true meaning of Love. What ever it was that was answering then told me something that really set me back. It said that I felt the way I did about certain people because I did not understand the true meaning of love. I protested and said that I did my best to love all of the people who were deserving of love.

It replied "yes that is your misunderstanding. You see love as something that you dole out in tiny little portions here and there to people who you have judged to be worthy of it. This is not love at all, it is only judgment". This stopped me dead in my tracks. I suddenly realized that what it was saying to me was true. This realization brought me to tears. It went
on and told me, "You treat love as though there is some shortage of it. It is not something that you can run out of. The more love that you give, the more love that there is in the world. Its that simple. The only way that there can be a shortage of it is if you hoard it and keep it to yourself."

It went on to explain, that "this is what Jesus was trying to tell you when he asked you to turn the other cheek, to judge not and to love your neighbor. He made no exceptions in these things that he requested of you. Why are you making exceptions, and judging some as worthy of love and others as not? Jesus fully intended for you to apply this love that you are to all, in a universal manner without any judgment of any sort". By this time the tears Were flowing freely. I was crying because for the first time in my life I Understood what the message Jesus left for us in the bible actually meant.

This has become my truth. I can't say what yours is for sure, but I have a feeling that it is probably similar.

The constitutional position and the essential characteristic of a human being is to love. We can survive without so many things but love.
Once we love we strat serving - may it be your family, society, nation or even a dog. You are absolutely right since these are all material we get disillussioned.
So the main purpose of life is to love the Supreme eternal person - God. And once we love Him we start serving Him - selflessly and we start surrendering to Him and carry out His will.
Once we start practicing this we become eligible to go back home - back to Godhead and achive perfection.

Yes, you should read The Purpose Driven Life. It's a wonderful book. I believe it's all about God. He created us and loves us. He can fill our hearts and minds. Other things can only give us temporary pleasure. With Him I feel happy and complete. He has done so many miracles for me. I was lost in darkness, put He pulled me out. Now I live in another country and tell others about Him. My brother got off drugs after he came to know God. He can change your life forever. I hope you find the answers you're searching for. Life is basically given to us so that we can live long enough to reproduce and increase the members of our species so that it does not have to face extinction

Yes it's hard to belive that but that is what nature and science will say about your life and whatever things we do in our lifetime are meant basically to make life easier for other members of our species and also our progeny [later generations]

However religion[most religions] define life as a test for humans..
When God created us..he had to decide whom to put in heaven and whom to put into hell..
So he created Earth and put us into it and with every action of ours he makes decisions about this and ultimately when we all die..the decision will be made and we will have an eternity to live in Heaven Or Hell

So this is what life is...I believe firmly in the religious view But sometimes the scientific view also triggers my fascination..

According to the teachings of the Buddha... NOTHING in this universe ever truly brings happiness. All things are suffering and suffering comes from the attachments or aversions to things, emotions, concepts, etc.

To make life meaningful, meditate on that concept (you don't have to be Buddhist to understand the concept and accept it as truth... use analytical thinking to come to your conclusion) and work on developing absolute altruism. These two things, wisdom and altruism, will bring meaning to your life and happiness.

I reason that our purpose in existence is to look for our author who's the only conceivable resource for purpose. issues that have been created have been created for a purpose. My existence exchange into already created long earlier i presumed approximately purpose so i won't be able to created purpose for my very own existence. people who say they convey/invent their very own purpose are purely fooling themselves into getting a feeling/phantasm of having a purpose. “until you anticipate a God, the question of existence’s purpose is incomprehensible.” –Bertrand Russell (observed atheist author) If we are alive purely although a mindless organic technique including evolution, then use of the notice, "purpose" is incomprehensible. it could be like asking a rain cloud the purpose of a raindrop. So if I call for genuine purpose (and not settle for the phantasm of purpose) then i'd desire to look for my author.

I am sure that first we have to obey God, to submit to God , because that's why Satan fell , that's why Eve and Adam fell, because they disobeyed God.First Satan although he used to be just an angel , he wanted to have a power like God over the other angels or so , and actually a glory like God's , a glory that only God deserves, because only He is God and this means among other things aI am too stupid to know - means that Only He is God and the One Who existed before with the '' all the rights reserved'' , the One Who made the Universe and the Father of people .
Second , satan led Eve into tempation because of his envy , and Eve ate the apple and gave it to Adam and both of them , fell.Satan tempetd Eve , with the ideea that actually the fruit is not forbidden , and it is not a sin to disobey God and eat the apple , on the contrary , satan tempted Eve with the ideea that the apple is a priviledge that only God deserves .
Satan tempted Eve with the ideea that -1-st : it is not a sin to eat the fruit of knowledge 2-nd: they shall not die if they it , 3 -rd: that ,somehow legally , they ,(Adam and Eve) , by eating the fruit of knowledge ,will get the science of God ,of good and evil.
And obviously all of this three things encountered by me , have been temptation and a tremenduous sin.Only God is a God , we shall never be God and a god and we shall never have the science of God, no matter how many psychologies shall be invented to discover what it is in our mind. More then this it is not legal in God's terms to know what is in people's mind more than they want to show, or we can assume the way Shakespeare did .
God shall never give us His knowledge and powers of God , and others and it is a sin to aspire to this, and actually tehnically it is imposible because we are made by Him , and not vice-versa, only God was eternaly a God , and only God is Allmighty , having an identity and a condition of God , nobody else can become a God (the Holy Trinity).
Love comes from God ,and takes us to God .If you are selfish you cannot go to God .Satan was selfish .He was in hell and wanted Eve and Adam go to hell , just like him , and disobey God.
Actually , we can say :Life means ...God exists , God is my Father , ...life comes from God,that's why is hard to explain , life means love .Maybe there are monks who never loved a woman , but they have love , the way angels have grandmothers and nephews and nieces have , anyway I think that after falling in love , actually men and women become like monks - a temperate love .
That's why satan gives us temptations , because a new person is somebody new , a stranger , and you want to know him , her to discover her and kiss him /her -- and this is a big sin ...because we all are very made of the same spirit.And love is endless, and hurts the one who is left...And we are having feelings like God and God punishes the one who hurts the other...That 's what I think...

Ultimately, your life has no meaning unless you define it. Even a christian's life only has the meaning they choose. I choose meaning like this: when I am dying, can I look back on my life and judge myself as having done well? Integrity, living what you already believe to be right, that is the ultimate answer.
