Canned foods are fine. As long as there is no bulging or denting, the canned goods are fine.

The Army has stored foods using many different methods. "Canned" Army foods have to be edible for at least 10 years. I think the date is on the can for two (2) reasons: to get you to buy a new can of soup AT LEAST every few years, and for marketing: to get you to think that the soup in the can is "fresh" until that date.

Eating canned soup will be fine.

You should still be able to eat it. I read once about some old cans that were found and they were about 60 or more years old, Still edible but probably doesn't taste so good. Canned food never does anyway. You should get US Army MRE's for your emergency rations. They have a long shelf life. Also freeze dried foods like the old Vietnam LRRP rations used by Special Forces.

Tomato soup usually goes for about 60 cents a can. I don't think it'll break the bank to go out and buy new soup. Throw it out.

Better to be safe than sorry and throw them out - but if you are really curious I would contact the Campbell Soup Company at http://www.campbellsoupcompany.com/faq.asp

Good Luck!!!

Can goods are marked with an expiration date, and normally it is one-two years. I would throw away the cans that you have. It is not worth taking a change of using them; food poisioning.

The expiration date is put there to let you know that it is not to be used after that date. Throw them away!

throw it away. the date means it has expired, so it may not be safe. why take the risk, you can buy a new can for under a dollar.
