I recently installed Windows Vista alongside XP I have now formatted the hard drive partition to remove Vista and gotten rid of all the files. However, when booting up the computer it still displays the option to start with Vista and if I don't move quickly enough it attempts to boot Vista. How do I completely remove this option from startup?

I have followed your advice but it just displays the following:

;
;Warning: Boot.ini is used on Windows XP and earlier operating systems.
;Warning: Use BCDEDIT.exe to modify Windows Vista boot options.
;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /FASTDETECT

How do I proceed? Cheers

The operations below are in XP:
start -> Run... -> (enter the command) msconfig -> (it will open the System Configuration Utility window) find the "Boot.INI" tag in this window and left-click it.-> you will find some string like: "multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partit... Windows Vista..." please select it then press the "Check All Boot Paths" button.-> then you can follow the steps to remove this option from the startup.

Go to windows xp. Right-click My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Startup and Recover Settings>Edit

Now go to the lines where vista written and then remove lines from "multi(0)" to "/fastdetect" . Dont remove the lines where xp is wriiten.

Example :
remove the lines

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Vista" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

First, click on the homestead windows icon in the decrease left corner. form "equipment configuration" in the quest bar then click on the link in the sector above that. follow the activates and permissions till you come back to the field with the 5 tabs categorised "familiar", "Boot", "amenities", "Startup", and "kit". click on the "Startup" tab and choose "enable All". click "prepare", then click "ok", and choose "equipment Restart". that's the finest thank you to repair it. KYLE: i've got been instructed by utilising people that comprehend plenty greater approximately computers than I do to not mess with the Registry. My appropriate guess may be to do a equipment restoration that's meant to revert your working equipment to its production facility situation. it is to not be flawed for a equipment fix which in certainty takes your pc returned to a prior configuration. I advise attempting equipment fix first yet my guess is that the Registry issues heavily isn't cured. yet you may attempt it besides. If that doesn't fix it, then do the equipment restoration which will do away with ANY document which you have put in or saved on your equipment. meaning information, video clips, pictures, purposes that did not incorporate the equipment, and music, etc. in case you made a backup disk or have an internet backup provider then in keeping with possibility you may evaluate that selection first. As all of us can see, i'm not the 1st guy or woman to come again to with the form of complicated situation, yet I easily have relatively of adventure with fixing my pc. in case you want to correspond by utilising utilising the e-mail link in my profile, be happy to achieve this. you will could first enable digital mail on your profile to have the capacity to deliver any. i will verify returned to this question in approximately 12 hours and respond to something new which you have further.
