It sounds like you have a variety of problems all ranging around your growth pattern. I'm not sure of your age, but if any of these problems do exist, you should ask your mom to schedule an appointment with an orthodontist for a consultation examination. Here is where they will do impressions, take a lot of photo's inside and outside your mouth, and do some x rays to determine where your growth pattern is deficient and what type of orthodontic treatment will be needed. They can also set up a payment plan with several options.
After your Dentist decides your treatment plan it's all pretty fast. There may be extractions to schedule, then the spacers, then placement of the ortho and monthly adjustments after that. I think most people are just overwhelmed in the beginning. Just take it slow and listen and if you don't understand, ask questions. You've taken the first step, just seeking advice.
Hope you get what you're looking for. It's nice to see kids that want their teeth fixed. Good luck!

You're not kidding they are a lot of money, $6,000 to be exact!

Tell your mom it's worth every penny she invests to get your teeth fixed. It can ruin your jaw if you don't, and can cost her a lot more in the long run because you can damage the nerves due to improper bite and root canals cost over $1,000 each. Even if she won't do it when you work do it yourself, get a good insurance plan too. It's never to late to fix your teeth.

First they take a mold of your teeth. I'm not really sure why they do that, possibly for a better view so they know what to do, but I could be wrong.

Once you've selected the style and go in to get them put it, it's a fairly quick procedure or it was with my daughter. About an hour, even less. They glue in the brackets, put the wire in and the rubber bands around each bracket and you're done. You watch a video to know how to care for them and your teeth then you go in every month or so for adjustments. I saw a difference within a month and usually they stay on for anywhere from a year to two years possibly, but usually about a year to a year and a half.

Take care of your teeth though or you will have a bazillion cavities...and you will have to wear a retainer afterwards to KEEP your teeth in place. I think you have to wear this forever too but you can take it off at night. The reason? Teeth tend to want to go back to the positions they held before. Not everyone keeps wearing the retainer forever however and teeth always shift so you really should.

$400? I don't think that's possible. The $6000 includes all the visits you need in the next 2 years so no more additional cost. We paid only half though as insurance paid the rest.

$400 might be just your initial visit. Go for the best, because otherwise you won't get the best results.
