Why does the Catholic religion depict Christ still on the cross. I know why my denomination depicts an empty cross. It's the victory over death and the hope of salvation. No one will give me a straight answer. I always get "Because they do". If I offended, I apologize.

Hi hon, CAtholic here. We show Christ on the cross to remind us of his sacrifice. It's to show us what came before and the promise of what comes after. Before the victory, he was on the cross, suffering for us.

No offense, but why even have the cross at all? If you believe Christ is victorious over death, then why not depict 'him' as alive?
But you do have a good point though, after all, his trial in the garden of Gethsemane was just as, if not more, important then the cross. That's where he took our sins so we could be forgiven.

I'm not Catholic, but I'll go with so they can remember what he went through for us. That is what I am reminded of when I see Jesus on the cross.

You know I was raised Catholic and I have no idea why either. I look at it as a way to not forget the sacrifice made for us.

I'm not catholic, but I think maybe because the death is what cleaned all our slates.

The Bible actually condems wearing a cross, especially with Jesus on it. Hebrews 6:5,6 speaks about those who have tasted the word of God but for their lack of faith they impale Jesus again and again to strengthen themselves by putting Jesus to shame again.

Its about guilt. Try being a first grade kid setting in church every morning right in front of a cross with Jesus hanging on it remembering what you were told about Jesus dieing for your sins. It is a powerful guilt induction tool.

Guilty people are easy to control.
