Don't give me any odd looks, odder questions, comments have been made on this Yahoo Answers site.

I've had my shower, sitting here floating around a bit on this site before I get ready for work. Listening to music of Babyface, eating a favorite oatmeal of mine.

Have you had a Quaker brand instant oatmeal that is raisen, date and walnut flavor? I just discovered it and it's a new favorite of mine.

I try to focus on eating a healthy (yet quick) breakfast in the morning and I find oatmeal is good to eat.

If you're a oatmeal eater . . . what do you like to put in your oatmeal ?

O.k. . . . answer this, then move on to answer a more mind stimulating, intellectual question. Nice to take a 'brain' break now and then (smiles).

a good for you oatmeal is a great source of fiber it help in the digestion of food and at the same the high fiber help Cleanse you colon and reduce some cholesterol.
If you want to eat real oatmeal then no to those instant types remember that instant its precooked then dehydrated. It has lost some of the good vitamins and texture better to try stell cut Irish oat meat or porridge it comes in a can also it will take time to cook. you can buy Mcannes Irsh Oatmeal, it will be in a yellow colored box it's much better than most and the flavor has a strong nutty like flavor
Remember oatmeal is one of the grains your body needs daily. now add some honey or fruit and try to keep away from white sugars.

If you want a real oatmeal experience, go buy some "steel cut" Irish oats and make them from scratch. Then you can add whatever fruits, nuts, etc that you want. Steel cut oats have a wonderful, nutty flavor and texture that you can't get with "quick oats." There is usually a recipe on the can/box - the only variation from the recipe that I would suggest is to not add salt until the cooking is done. Salt absorbs water and will stop the oatmeal from getting as creamy as it should.

If the recipe on the box seems like too much work. Foodtv.com has a recipe that you make overnight in a slow cooker.

Ok gotta confess I'm an oatmeal fan. The instant stuff is great but lotsa sugar. If you can get it Nature's Path Organic is even better. It is much more expensive.

Can't find the Raisin Date Walnut kind around here but it is really good. I also really like maple and brown sugar and my kids are fans of the apple and cinnamon flavor.

Well, actually, it is refreshing to see someone who is trying to eat healthy.

First, a quick tip: You can eat non-quick oatmeal just as quickly as instant. Oatmeal can be microwaved if you don't have time to cook it on the stove. Just use 1 part oats to 2 parts water or milk (ex: 1/2 C oats to 1C water/milk). Microwave for 45-50 seconds, stir, then microwave in 20-30 second intervals till it's cooked to your liking.

I change up my oatmeal a lot. I like:

nuts: almonds and pecans in particular
sucanat (organic raw evaporated cane juice - not white sugar)
pieces of dried fruit (they plump up when cooked)
maple syrup (pure maple syrup has lots of nutrients)
cinnamon
nutmeg
all-fruit spread

I make my oatmeal with milk. It is creamier, and adds some extra nutrition to my breakfast.

Good question!

As a good old Canadian Prarie boy, I will tell you there is only one way to eat your oatmeal. After preparing it, take a large scoop of ice cream and put it right in the middle then add cinniamon. For a more healthy alternative replace the ice cream with vanilla frozen yogurt. It gives you a wonderful flavour, interesting temperature, and is much better for you than sugar.

OK....I'm am ardent oatmeal fan, I eat as many as three helpings each day...but only old fashioned oatmeal, the type you actually have to "cook" ...less sugar, more fiber, better texture, and much healthier than the "little flavored packets"
I eat mine in several ways, depending on my tastes at the time!
Morning...with a banana sliced in it! Afternoon, salt, pepper, butter !
Late night snack....butter (real butter) real maple syrup ( not the stuff made with corn syrup) about 2 tablespoons!
I have lowered my Cholesterol to normal on the bad side and better than normal on the good side!
But then again folks, I am a health food freak, I have changed my entire life by changing the way I eat, I am healthier than I have ever been!!

Wow I didn't realise porridge was so popular. This the traditional way of making really tasty porridge.

By volume put 1 measure of Quaker Oats, 1 measure of cold water,2 measures of cold milk, and a pinch of salt, in a jug. Microwave for about 2 mins. on full power. Stir, and microwave again for 2 mins. Serve with cold milk and honey. It is a matter of taste, but I find 'real' porridge better than the instant sort.

The instant is too sweet for me. I like to make the regular Quaker Oats from the canister in the microwave it only takes two & a half minutes to cook and is much better. I like to put walnuts & bananas on top. Sometimes I add brown sugar or cinamon to have it be sweeter.

I do enjoy oatmeal for breakfast, but not that instant stuff. I make mine on the stove. I boil my water, add a pinch of salt, Cinnamon, nutmeg and let it boil. Do you remember that old nursery rhyme, "... some like it hot, some like it cold, some like it in the pot nine days old". Well, that is just like I eat mine. Cold and lumpy on the outside and hot on the inside. Pour cold milk on top and a lot of brown sugar, and it is the perfect breakfast, and a great cleanser for the body.

Bon appetite.
