It is not illegal.

Think about it this way. It takes two parties to make a bet. If one side (the casino) realizes that the other side (the card counter) has an advantage over them, they shouldn't make said bet and they don't have to.

Now, if only all the other gamblers in a casino were as smart as the house...

Counting cards in blackjack is NOT illegal! If card counting was illegal, they would arrest you and you would go to jail.

However, the casino has the right to kick you out of a casino or they will tell you that you can play any game at the casino except blackjack if they don't like how you are playing (or winning).

I most cases if they think you are counting cards, they will begin to shuffle after every hand.

The new RFI chips will allow casinos to track card counters by watching how a player bets per hand compared to the cards in play.

As others have mentioned, card couting is not illegal. But since a casino reserves the right to bar you from their establishment for almost any reason, they will bar you if they find that you are counting cards.

You may also be interested to know that in Las Vegas (at least), casinos work together to see that card counters are barred from playing at most casinos. They keep a "book" on known card counters, and use this to minimize the chances that they will allow a known card counter to play blackack at the casinos.

Rather than counting cards at a land casino, you may want to try playing perfect strategy at an online casino. Here's a list of online casinos that offer blackjack (if you are interested):

It is not illegal.

However, a casino has the right to exclude anyone for any reason. So if they think someone is counting cards they can simply ask that player to leave the black jack table or even the casino. If they are convinced that the person is enough of a threat they will ban them for life and circulate their picture to other casinos.

A very good card counter can neutralize the house edge, which is why a casino doesn't want them there.

Well guess who wanted it made illegal? Yep... the casinos. Card counters are banned from casinos because people who can win at blackjack cost the casinos money.

The World may love a winner but casinos only love losers.

Casinos don't like to lose. Life is not fair.
They are big and have the power to make the rules in some places.
Counting is legal in Atlantic City and Indiana and possibly more places. They will shuffle everytime if they think you are a card counter.
