For one, all I have to say is that RACING ROCKS!!! And I don't care if people rate me low or not! I bet half or more of the people that answered "they do not like racing because whatever ecuse they made up" was probaly fake, they just said that because they wantedd to get BEST ANSWER. I am answering this truly. Racing is a wounderful sport to watch, its not boring, or people just dont go there to get money, heck I go there to watch a beuatiful breed perform. And thats that. You all may think what you want to think, but for real do you think they just abuse them for no reason?

People who say it is "elitist" don't have a clue. 99.999% of horse racing is not the Kentucky Derby, it is people (including grooms, trainers, jockeys, even owners) barely making a subsistence living racing claiming horses at tracks you have never heard of.
I think that there should be less racing at some of the "cheaper tracks" and there are various things that can/should be done to improve conditions for horses, such as the installation of synthetic (cushioned) racing surfaces, which are now in place at several tracks in California and Kentucky.
If there was no racing, there would be no more thoroughbreds, and a horse like Seabiscuit or Secretariat never would've existed .

I love horse racing!! I have been working with racehorses for the past 5 years! It is not at all cruel. We take better care of our horses than most people do. If you don't like horse racing why are you posting here?! Go find somewhere else to post!! I just hate animal rights activists they think they know so much!!!

I have trained many off-track thoroughbreds for eventing and I do not like racing because it freaks most horses out. Racing thoroughbreds start training almost when they are born and more often then not they do not get a chance to grow into their bodies or mature psychologically before they are expected to run their hearts out. Imagine when you were 5 being told to run 10K or a marathon. Then get ready to go to high school. You were still practically a baby!! That is kind of what horse racing does to 85% of horses. It pushes them too much before they are really able to handle it. It turns them into mental cases.

I don't think all horse racing is cruel, Let me rephrase, I believe there is a minority of owners that really treat their animals well and only run the ones that want to run, they really only use whips as encouragement.
However, we do buy horses to hunt and Junp off the track and some of the damage racing has done to these horses irriversible and unneccessary. 2 of close to 50 have cometo my stable undamaged physicallyor mentally.
I also agree that it is very Elitist, and some of those not in the Elite will stop at nothing to get there. But some owners really are great so it is a hard generalization to make.

Why is it cuel to the horse? Horses are bred to race just like dog races.People think that it is wrong to whip a horse, but the drivers and jockeys are watched very closely buy the judges on how many times the horse is whipped.

I don't like it at all. You can just use poor Barbaro as an example, and besides, no one goes to the races to watch the horses anyway, just to bet and make money. That is why I don't go.
