Many out there live their lives with the goal of being decent, nice and asking forgiveness for their sins . . . thus they are accepted into heaven.

Others feel that the purpose of life is to re-awaken their soul and heart to purely see the One (God) . . .become enlightened to have knowingness of authentic goodness, Love, awareness of being one with all (even while still beautifully living as human on earth).

Difference of the two . . . (in my opinion) is that of the two noted above that one is working from a place of guilt and striveing to get the 'big reward' of being accepted in heaven.

The other. . .person comes into the awareness (enlightenment) that they are of value and love and have the heart desire to be aware, learn, pay attention of how to open their soul and heart to truely 'see' the One (God) and thus during the process of enlightment are not living a 'sinful' (as others phrase it) life and through enlightment do live a decent and heart valuing life.

.
Enlightment to ' Know ' the One (God) . . . I don't feel that the search for enlightment is selfish. By seeking enlightment. . . it's for the goal of extending out my soulful hand and heart to be one with authentic Love, pure Love. God is Love.

I like your name, Onelight.
Here's a book for you, One Taste.
by Ken Wilber.
This subject, like so many posted here, is just too huge to be dealt with on this site.(Too huge - and much too simple!)
Read the book, Onelight, it's an eye-opener.

One must be first cleansed of sin before becoming enlightened to the truth of God. I know this from practical experience. Without the truth of God all knowledge is worthless because without the truth of God no bit of knowledge can be put to a practical, everlasting use. Knowledge applied without the wisdom of God is knowledge that is fleeting, that is destined to die. God's truth is everlasting; therefore the knowledge that comes with it is also everlasting. The application of truth and knowledge has an justifiable end: the salvation of lost soul. This is what goes to heaven and this is the reward you receive in heaven, that is the souls that you have led to Christ. Nothing material on this earth can pass into heaven. The only things that pass are the saved souls of people and God's truth.

There is only enlightenment-God, material desires and heaven are all illusions. Everyone learns this lesson at some point-I'm just thankful that I developed the spiritual awareness to learn it now. It saves me a lot of wasted time and effort focusing on meaningless theological dogma.

Im sorry, but i didnt finish reading your question. I already have my answer....enlightenment!! I would want to see and feel God(The Oneness) than asking a being for forgiveness when all sin is is going against my true self..my soul...being a slave to the flesh than being one with my soul. Sin dont upset or hurt God, it hurts us. All sin takes us further and further away from our sole purpose on this earth..."Get back to the Oneness"...

Enlightenment is like the moon reflected on the water.
The moon does not get wet, nor is the water broken.
Although its light is wide and great, the moon is reflected even in a puddle an inch wide.
The whole moon and the entire sky are reflected in one dewdrop on the grass.

I think your thoughts encompasses both. When our sins are cleansed and forgiven and God has His rightful place in our heart, we come to realize nothing can separate us from the love of God and we are His most valued possession. We are children of the King in the Heavenly Kingdom. Can't get any better than that.

To me, the one wishing to become enlightened is only thinking about self. When you think about self it becomes what can I do to reach this certain point in my life. You soon find you can't do enough. With Christians, you ask God to forgive you for your inward sin as well as your outward sin, and ask Him what He will do to help you accomplish those things in life that will make you a better person. The only difference in the two is that with one you are doing it by yourself, with the other a mighty God is helping you.

At heart, both are striving to improve themselves, but enlightenment it is, because it takes into account the whole versus the personal.

There are many other goals in life...you've only mentioned the religious ones. My goal in life is to live it to the full and enjoy the pleasure of discovery and learning.

The one(s) who choose to be "sin-free" are the ones who follow what GOD asks them to do. They are in essence enlightened and are spreading HIS WORD to others as well as following HIS HOLY WORD with daily reading, study, and obedience. This is what GOD wants HIS CHILDREN to do. The one(s) who seek to be "enlightened" spend a lifetime reading and talking but never want to obey what HE COMMANDS us to do. Why would you find the enlightenment as a GooD ThInG to him/herself and/or others?? This is not a game it is an eternal life that you are playing with. GOD WON and satan LoSt! Have a great week.
