Not rude, just odd. I would suggest you don't.

Also, Dr. King and the Civil Rights movement benefited everyone, even if it made you think about the condition of our relationships with one another, not just race relations. This holiday should be celebrated by everyone; it's not a holiday exclusive to blacks.

It's a holiday for ALL Americans, not just those of us who are black.

Martin Luther King left our country a little better than how he found it. For that, all Americans benefited -- not just black people.

So, wish everyone a happy MLK day.

Martin Luther King had a dream. Do you understand what his dream was? His dream included the idea that you would not have to ask this question. MLK Day is meant to remind us of the fact that people of all races, creeds, religions, and colors would be judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin, so yes, I think it is rude to wish someone Happy MLK Day based on their race. MLK is not just a black hero, he is an American hero.

It is rude. Martin Luther King was not only for black people. He was a crusader for equal rights for everyone. Grab a history book and you may learn something.

Say it to anyone around you if you want to say it badly- not just black people.

It is not a celebration so much as a reminder and a day to focus on the fact that MLK Jr asked us to show compassion to our neighbors and to people of different ethnicities no matter our history or preconceptions.

It would be like saying happy Happy Presidents day or Happy Veterans day. You will get looked at funny if you get really excited or have a huge smile on your face saying it!!!!!!

I'd just say nothing. How are you to know for a fact if the person in question even honors MLK? If you get in conversation with someone about it and it seems appropriate, then go a head. But I wouldn't say it out of the blue.

You'd think it would be rude, wouldn't you?

But, it's part of the Black History Month they teach at grade schools, now, so I suppose one should.

Still, it strikes me as odd, since Dr. King's whole point was to NOT divide folks into black or white, but, as I said, that's what the schools are teaching.

Why bother? They'll just attack you and call you a racist. I say this because I had a client ask a black girl what her culture does in February and she got offended and bitchy. There was not reason for this. The woman was just being polite, courteous and curiuos.
