What people oppose about gay marriage is the fact that such is possibly a 'good' one. Because marriage is a symbolic metaphor symbolizing 'holiness' or 'in-dwelling', for gay people to be able to marry would be the same as saying that gay people can actually love each other, which would mean that homosexuality is a possibly valid form of expressing and experiencing love.
Because man/woman sexuality results in offspring, church doctrine interprets that as being 'holy' in purpose. This over-reaching metaphor conviently ignores all the 'marriages' the church performs that are far from holy, or the offspring that result when a union is not loving.
The union of two people in love/sex IS a holy thing. But, as with most things, the church is more concerned with the apperance of holiness than its application. And because the church has always been more concerned with the appearance, so too have its followers. Therefore, the church will sanction a marriage between a man and a woman regardless of how 'loving' it is simply because it fits the proper metaphor, ignoring all those who 'love' each other irregardless of ceremony. Just because a marriage can be holy does not make EVERY marriage holy.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'll explain my issue with gayness. I think gays kissing is disgusting. Much like watching two teenagers with their hands all over each other is disgusting. Get a room. Don't make me look at that. I also think "tolerance" has gone WAY too far. Where I live, they are planning on teaching kids as young as fourth grade how to "please" men and women in each relationship. Personally, I don't want my kids to hear from the school, an institution of learning, that that is okay. I don't feel it is. It's my choice what to teach my children about sex, and when to teach it. I'm also against gay marriage because the Bible condemns it.
Why are there so many Gods? I don't know. That question I can't answer.

They will tell you it is because marriage is between a man and a woman. They will give you a Bible verse that says a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. That will be one of the main verses against this question.
Yet I have to say that I am not against it. Many of my fellow Christians are, but I am not. I read something, yesterday, on a 360 page that said Marriage is not always between a man and a woman. It made me pause. Yes, that is true. It's not. I have no problem with two men getting married or two women getting married. Doesn't everyone deserve a life of happiness with the one that they love? Doesn't everyone deserve the security of a union? Why not call that marriage? Especially for those who support homosexuality but not gay marriage - that doesn't make sense. In conclusion, I see nothing wrong with it, despite what so many others will say. Good Day.

Those of certain faiths believe that being gay is a sin and therefore do not want such sinners to partake in marriage which they see as holy. They see marriage as between a man and a woman because their holy book tells them that. That's all well and good but the problem arises when they try to impose their personal religious beliefs onto the whole nation of people by enacting laws that forbid behavior outside of those religious beliefs. That, to me, is insane.
Massachusetts allows gay marriage because their judicial system realized that imposing one person's religion onto another person is wrong and that all citizens (regardless or religious beliefs or sexual preference) must be afforded equal rights.
As far as "so many Gods" - I personally believe their is one God and that people choose to see that one God in many different ways (or not at all). I seriously doubt there are 10 or 20 Gods each with his or her own following.

There's a Scripture that says, "Neither give place to the Devil". It means that since such things are an abomination in the eyes of God, we as Christians are to separate ourselves from the "very appearance" of evil. Since homosexuality was NOT ordained by God as an institution of marriage, we have to protect the sanctity of what God ordained by the power of our voice in society and the healing of our communities. Gay people shouldn't be denied EVERYTHING, because they're as human as everyone else is, but to allow a society that was supposedly at least partially founded on the tenets of Christianity to undergo such a radical change without Scripture to back up its validity is to fail God.

It is just the God of the bible and the quran. Paganism and our gods do not care one way or other that is the decision of two responsible adults.
Through out history, even in pagan run cultures like Greece and Rome even though homesexuality was the accepted norm and many rulers were homosexuals and bisexuals marriage was stil reserved for a man and a woman. People today who support gay marriges will tell us that those people allowed homosexual marriage, but that is not true because through out history marriage was all about creating children and legally having children to give your riches to. Pagans sometimes had many children by many women, but only those who were their legal children by their married father and mother had any claim to the riches. If one was totally homosexual, then they would never have children and therefore marriage was not necessary.
Just check into history. People today say marriage is just a Christian invention, but it is not. before Christ, before Abraham had children and before the nation of Isreal was, there was marriage. So my point is even though gay marriage is not an issue with me there is basis in history to reject it, but I say go for it. It just means more business for me because many ministers will not marry same sex couples, but I would in a heart beat. I think they have just as much right to marriage as straights. Hetero sexuals are fearful it will destroy their way of likfe and the population of this planet will go down. Well mabe we should encourage gay marriages then. This earth is very much overpopulated as it is.

Yes alot of people do bring G-d into it, but it boils down to the fact that many think it is wrong, immoral even, due to their beliefs. It was not meant to be like that. of all the different cultures/peoples of this world we live in do believe in a G-d of some kind. Is it wrong? No, what is wrong is how it is forced on others to accept it. gay marriage is looked down on because of the way people believe. common sense does tell you that a man marrying a man is not right. just as a woman marrying a woman is not right either. to condone such relationships is saying that you don't mind that they want to have rights. you don't mind that they want to adopt a child. you don't mind that they want to bring their lifestyle out of the closet for all to see. that you don't mind that they want to teach other people's children that their lifestyle is to be accepted. what it really comes back to is the gay population forcing it on others to accept.

OK, besides the religious views, here's the rational....
The "Union" of gay people is considered "unnatural" even by secular views. If Gay marriage is legalized, then other types of marriage that are more "natural" would have to be considered. The best example is polygamy. ever since the gay marriage movement has been gaining a little ground, the polygamists have also started asking for polygamy to be legalized. After all polygamy was and is practiced much more in the world then same sex marriage.
If both are legalized, then other possible marriages could also be legalized. Not to mention that one guy could be married to 2 women and one man. One of his spouses (if not all) would be married to someone else and more. those spouses would be married to other spouses, and so on. Next thing you know the traditional, rightful, one man and one women doesn't exist anymore. Marriage itself is reduced to mean nothing more then to legally have sex with certain people of either sex.
People are more against polygamy then gay marriage, but what is more "natural"? that's what it means to say "If gay marriage is legalized, the traditional family will be hurt." Sure my family right now most likely won't be affected, but my children could be when it's time for them to decide to marry.

Some people are bigoted and fail to recognize basic human rights. People make these claims that marriage is strictly defined as being between a man and a women. I don't see any problem whatsoever in apply this term to same sex couples. So what. How does having married couple Bill and Bob down the road make John and Jill's marriage any less so?
We need to start learning to live together, allowing other people the freedom to enjoy their lives, and stop applying our own distorted, pseudo religious views on everyone else.
