according to a philippine song

Da Coconut Nut

The coconut nut is a giant nut
If you eat too much, you'll get very fat
Now, the coconut nut is a big, big nut
But its delicious nut is not a nut

It's the coco fruit (it's the coco fruit)
Of the coco tree (of the coco tree)
From the coco palm family

There are so many uses of the coconut tree
You can build a big house for the family
All you need is to find a coconut man
If he catch the tree, he gets the fruit free

The coconut bark for the kitchen floor
If you save some of it, you can build the door
Now, the coconut trunk, do not throw this junk
If you save some of it, you'll have a second floor

The coconut wood is very good
It can stand 20 years if you create (?) wood
Now, the coconut fruit, to tell you the truth
You can probe it or use it as firewood

The coconut leaves could shade it gives
For the roof, for the walls up against the eaves
Now, the coconut fruit, say my relatives
Make good cannonballs up against the eaves

I think that it is a fruit because it's a product of the tree .I know some fruits come from plants and not just trees .But they are still the product of the plant.Where as the peanut(ground nut) grows under the soil and is part of the root of the plant .so it's not a fruit

The term coconut refers to the fruit of the coconut palm. The Coconut Palm (Cocos nucifera) is a member of the Family Arecaceae (palm family). It is the only species in the genus Cocos, and is a large palm, growing to 30 m tall, with pinnate leaves 4-6 m long, pinnae 60-90 cm long; old leaves break away cleanly leaving the trunk smooth.

Hello,

(ANS) YES! its rather confusing, the name is "coco nut" but its actually (technically) the fruit of the coco nut palm tree. So its NOT a nut at all really, its a fruit. Although I can see why some people might have called it a nut orginally though.
