Hand signals, grunts and groans, drawing pictures in the dirt --general body language.
Watch the movie "Quest For Fire" (Ron Perlman, Rae Dawn Chong). Excellent depiction of early man.

From the earliest beginnings man spoke to his creator.
Adam in the garden spoke about Eve saying "This is at last bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh and she will be called woman."
I am certain they talked to each other. Eve talked to a snake so she knew how to communicate. I can't believe women haven't always known how to talk. They come out talking. Eve told God that the snake it deceived her and so she ate. That was the first two people and they had no problems talking.

how "early"? the first communication one can think of is common to all mammals. But of course the real beginning is ...THE WORD. (although in today's terms I would rather say The Sound. but then again "music" is an other story)

cavemen communicated by hitting sticks on walls, and experimenting with the sound and the vibration of the stick.they also drew pictures in the sand and they would do signs with their hand like a sign language to represent different animals while they were hunting.

Same way we did in grade 3.
If you liked a girl , you smashed her over the head.
If your mom asked you a question , you grunted her an answer.
Shaking fists , waving arms ,

I don't know what you mean by the early man. I suppose by one language, until God confused the languages at Babel.

I think that they used a lot of body language like eye contact and body gestures. I think the earliest form of spoken language consisted of mainly glottal sounds and clicks.

Facial expression, grunt, gesture.
We still use it, but it doesn't convey as much as it did before.
